What about PCs themselves? Surely they have been around longer than CM/FM? |

Why work on a fictional club when they could spend more time giving us lower leagues? EG Welsh Division 1. I would like a chance to play my home team.
| You can't compare it to 'doing something instead'
A non-coding member of the team (I think it might even have been Miles himself) added the Harchester team and players to the database.
I think the 'patch' is just a ddt file that will activate Harchester and swap them with a team in the English Premier Division, which takes 5 mins tops to create.
It hasn't taken any resources from elsewhere and it's an optional download so I can't see what all the fuss has been about at all.

I can see where the dyed-in-the-wool anti-Harchester guys are coming from, Craig, while not agreeing with it.
One of the constants of LLM is the old "No patches or updates unless they're done by SI". The reason for this is twofold:
1) A 3rd party update allows the updater to advantage/disadvantage his favoured/least favoured team/player. He may not do this, but the opportunity's there.
2) We trust SI to make the game as realistic as they possibly can, and up until now they have.
The argument of the LLaMa is shot in the foot (hoof?) when SI themselves release a patch that not only allows the playing of a fictional team but also removes a team from existence.
From that angle I can see exactly where the firmest dertractors are coming from.

| Is it compulsory LLM to download every patch?

Nothing's compulsory.
FM's a game, and just that. It's up to the individual how to play it, but many ask how to start in a realistic way.
There are Rules of the Forum, which have to be adhered to and are posted quite clearly in the Forum Header, and there are Guidelines which can be found in the featured topics.
When it comes to patches it makes sense to play with the latest game engine programmed by SI.
LLM's about realism, SI provides realism, it's up to the individual whether he/she plays the latest version of the game but LLaMas generally do.
The Harchester patch, though...that's a different matter.

Arriving a bit late at this debate, I suppose, but anyhoo...
I was actually more annoyed that I had to deselect the option to have the stupid team in the game in the first place. I'm assuming here that this is simply because someone ballsed-up while putting the relevant screen together, rather than an intentional decision on the part of SI (but maybe I'm being generous).
Anyway, the 'patch' doesn't bother me. Play the game for 20 seasons and the Harchester players will be no more real than any of the other 50,000 regens. *.ddt and *.edt files are fine for those as want 'em. I'll stick with the official patches and read the patch notes very closely.

| Thats what annoyed me most.
An online patch is fine in my opinion, but to have the team included already on every copy sold, AND compound that by f***ing up the options just shows why it should never have been done in the first place.
All this "it wasnt done by programmers" is cr*p anywyay. Maybe if a programmer had done it, he would have done it RIGHT.
