We never had dyslexia when I was at school, if you could not spell at the start of the school year, by God you could at the end.
We had one chap who was a touch slow, but detentions every day where he had to right out hundreds of lines with correct spellings, followed by two to three hours of individually supervised homework every evening barring Saturdays and Sundays, soon cured him of word blindness. The beatings when he made silly errors also helped.
He finished with a full complement of O-Levels and A-levels and went off to University.

1. I have never been officially "diagnosed" as dyslexic but I still reckon I am.
2. I also have a full compliment of GCSEs and A'levels
