I have been reading the llm forum for a little while now, maybe 4 months or so, and I would like to thank whoever came up with this way of playing CM/FM. After discovering this forum and reading the guidelines I rediscovered my enjoyment for a game I was getting jaded playing. I never was one for playing as a massive team I always liked to play with a club with prospects and the possibility of promotion of a run in Europe.
What I have found is that I enjoy the structure and rules that I enforce upon myself using the guidelines provided. It makes the game more interesting for me and I find it a challenge to come up with solutions to various problems that I face when playing the game.
So I guess I have a question to ask.
Why use the llm rules?
For me the answer for me would be, due to the fact I have never supported what could be classed as a ‘big’ club, managing a ‘big’ club in a computer game would not be fun with no challenge and only disappointment if you don’t do as expected. Even if you do better than expected where is the challenge? Taking a club from the lower leagues and starting at the bottom of the management ladder and working your way up the leagues/career path is a tangible goal for most people with perseverance and the enjoyment to be gained with all the highs and lows which you can encounter during the game is a reward in itself.
Why do you as a gamer playing the Sports Interactive Football Manager games (CM and FM) choose to play using the llm rules. After all it’s just a game and within the sphere of your choices in playing is the choice to use a set of voluntary rules. My question is why?

I don't apply the LLM ethos to just this game: I wouldn't cheat or try to bypass the system in any other game I'd play either.
It's a matter of the type of person you are. Are you an honest person, or do you try to buck the system at every opportunity? You'll find that most LLaMas have a similar outlook on life and are (usually) slightly older on average than other FM/CMers on the SI boards.

I'll have a go at this if you're interested. I have never found it particularly fun to play it any other way. If I am going to invest a certain portion of precious time into something (in this case, FM) then I care for it to be challenging and rewarding. I find nothing challenging about taking over as a big club and winning things right off. There is little reward in that for the hours I've spent. On the other hand, starting out at some crap club and trying to build it into something I can be proud of is both challenging and rewarding. I feel as though the time I've invested into FM has been turned into a creatively worthwhile pursuit. Otherwise, I could just spend my gaming time on some mindless shooter, or some other thing where once I've mastered the levels it goes on the shelf and I move on. WIth FM and the LLaMa ethic, the game continues to be challenging and enjoyable, and I get a lot more mileage out of it than with any other computer game.
What Liam said. I've always said that I'd be entirely happy to spend an evening shooting the breeze and sharing a drink with any regular LLaMa because I know I'd be drinking with an honest, down to earth individual with no pretences at all...a fact borne out by two weekends.
LLM isn't just a way of playing CM/FM, it's a way of life. I used to think it was mainly people of the left side of the political divide that played, and whilst this is true in the main, it doesn't exclude people of other political persuasions playing, in the main ideals are very similar.
LLM's don't cheat in FM, they don't cheat in life.
