The better way to write it would be to say that this was his first time as an LLM manager
and he thought he'd try a challenge. He's playing as a side in ECN: is that LLM?
Oh, and I still think the colon is the appropriate grammatical clause here. To use a Lynne Truss simplification, you'd use a colon as if you were to use an "ah - " as a gap. So you could rewrite poo's statement as "I'm playing as a side in the English Conference North - ah, but is that Lower League Management?"
