I have a fairly modest computer and only play with english leagues...(with large database) now if i was to start a new game and also load players from say 5 other nations, would this at all affect game speed / loading etc..

Probably not too much, as you're not running any extra leagues, so there are no extra fixtures being processed. I'd imagine you might notice a tiny bit of slow-down, but nothing too major or game-stopping.

Depending on the nations it can make a big difference - it's basically increasing the database size which can slow the game hugely (it did for me).

I guess since you already have large database though that will provide the biggest slow down and adding players from specific nations will only add a small amount to that since a decent number of those players will already be included.

if you add about 5 nations after a while you will notice when you click on player search it can take ages to load all the players. it can get a bit annoying.
