guess I haven't been reading my manual... but the forum search did not come up with any result, other than someone else asking without a response:

what exactly do the grey stars tell me, regarding player ability? I have players that seem to be of similar ability, one has 6 or 7 grey stars, the other 3 yellow stars.

Since the grey stars are new I first thought that it might have to do with youth players, but then even some older players have them.

it is for young players and shows their potential ability.

If you hover your mouse cursor over the grey stars for a few seconds, a box will come up explaining the stars to you.

So basically that means: e.g. 2 young players at the same age. one has 7grey stars and the other 3yellow stars. That would suggest that the second player is further in his development and already has a proper ability that is worth judging, even so he might theoretically have a much worse potential ability and be a much worse player.
