One of my players influence went up once - but i doubt it was because of me. Maybe it was because he was third choice captain and led the team sometimes?

Young players can increase influence by learning from influencial players.
Also, a player's influence may raise over time due to experience, just like his speed may decline.

I believe it increases when players are injured as well.
