While I realize that in real life, many times the fans can be unrealistic in their expectations, I have been wondering how realistic the game is when it comes to fans. Sometimes my fans reaction at games or players really shocks me as it's just not realistic. For instance, I am Benidorm and have taken my team up from the bottom league to league 2 in Spain. In the Spanish Cup, I drew Barcelona. I had no illusions about winning this round, but just hoped to play well and draw well to make some money. To my amazement, we won the first leg at home 3-2. The fans should have been amazed and ecstatic, but they were just satisfied with the win. I almost thought that we were going to shock the world, when tied 0-0 into the 60th minute in leg 2 at the Nou Camp. However, I know that Barca had Eto, Ronaldinho, and Henry on the bench. Soon they brought Eto on and he scored 3 times in 15 minutes to finish us off. Well I thought it was fun, but a realistic result. However, my fans were disappointed by this and my board has reminded my of this a month later! How could they have possibly expected that we would go there and win!? This seems a bit unrealistic for the game. I do like that the fans get excited when you bring in a good signing. However sometimes they don't like a signing for no real good reason.
I just try to ignore the fans moaning about something myself, theres always a signing they really like and either one they dont rate or a result they moan about.
I know what you mean . I got a brøndby IF save where the fans was disappointed because I lost 2-0 to AC Milan in the champions league group stage, and like you I was told by the board to make the players aware of this, wtf you can't expect a danish team to beat the champions league winners.
It's the same for the big teams as well. You can have a great run, winning 5-10 in a row, & then lose (or draw) only to begin a new run.
The fans will still be disappointed in the result.
While I agree that the team could have done better in that single game, shouldn't the game/fans take into consideration the fact that you will eventually lose a game? I mean having a record of 13W 1D 1L is awesom no matter what team you are.
I agree, its one of my beefs with this new confidence feature. As Aston Villa in 2011 (just joined them in January '11) there was expectation to get to the League Cup S/F and FA Cup Q/F along with a safe mid-table position in the league.
The team was already out of both cups and correctly said at the start because I didn't play these matches I can't be held to the expectations for them. As it happens I won the league on the last day of the season and then the expectations for both cups changed saying I should make the players aware of loseing both games in the cups.
1) I had nothing to do with them
2) Even if I did, i went on to win the league aginest every expectation so who cares how the cups went months ago?
3) The game should know cups are a great chance to put out youth and fringe players and I always do this, but now i can't without my confidence being severly dented. The board are merely "satisfied" with me after winning the league.
I also share the above moans, but my overall confidence screen at the moment has the following comments:
"The fans think Ryan Griffiths is a outstanding signing etc"
"But the fans are concerned with the form of Ryan Griffiths and want you to address this etc".
Griffiths I think had a couple of matches where the whole team played badly at the end of the season, but apart from those matches he was amazing.
Another similar type of problem is that I got a news topic after a recent 2-0 friendly victory over a non-league side full of greys, saying the fans were bombarding national radio stations with their disgust at only winning 2-0, despite our complete domination of the game where we could easily have got double figures. I went to the match confidence screen and the fans were happy with the performance! They just cannot seem to make their minds up.
Even though the fans are pretty inconsistent, I'm wondering how difficult it is to program that part of the game. I would love as manager the ability to respond to fans or the board. I hate that you are told when you can respond and when you do, you are only given certain choices, and most of the time, I wouldn't respond with any of the choices!
Hehe, funny you should mention it. I had a report a couple of game months ago - I won the Champions League and the board and fans were thrilled that I did. However they pointed out that they were also dissapointed about my 2-1 defeat at Reading - although I already secured the second consecutive title and were giving some field time for youngsters
