You seem to concede a hell of a lot of goals. Have you tried setting players tactics in the game? It only takes 2 or 3 minutes, but might be why you are conceding goals like no-ones business. Go to your tactics screen, click on the arrow next to a player, and and instructions screen should come up. There you need to set the players individual tactic, but there are presets for every position. Use one of the presets for a quicker fix, or use a preset and tweak it to your players ability.

Try this, especially for your goal keeper. If this doesnt work, come back and ask for assistance. It may also be that you've lucked into a bad team with bad attitude, much like you might do if you were a real life manager. Considered trying a new save game or a different club?

And it's as i said, i spent no more than 30 minutes making a tactic and tweaking it, this is a simulation, real managers spent a lot longer than anyone playing this game analysing the opposition, tweaking their tactic per game to make sure they win etc..

Sure your result is unlikely but it can happen but you need to put at least a little time into it to get something out of it, the default tactics are extremely poor in my opinion but if you're not willing to put in even the 30 minutes that i'm suggesting then personally i don't see 1) what you really are expecting to happen or 2) why you ever bought a football management simulation for if you're not willing to accept having to do what everyday managers have to do.

On the last thread ONE person out of 20 responses was 'insulting' (they told you it was your tactics). Everyone else tried to help, myself included (i advised using default tactics). I can understand being infuriated at such results but 'yelling' at people on a forum isn't doing anyone any good. I don't like FM08 (despite being as successful as I ever have on any FM) because its like the old Fifa's (you can only score from certain angles because the goalkeeper is a superman) so I've gone back to 07, maybe you should do the same? Or maybe just take a break from the series all together.

I will say that I'm SURE you can make positive changes that will stop you getting slaughtered 11-0 but I don't know what they might be without seeing a lot more information and even then I'm no super-tactician.

Unfortunately as FM has developed over the years it does seem to have lost any element of 'pick up & play' that it used to have.

Your results & those of others all appear to have one reasonably common factor in that the tactics used were the preset tactics. I can only make an assumption but what I think we are seeing is the AI has been developed to such an extent that it is able either through design or accident to easily exploit any inherent weaknesses in the default tactics which has resulted in the game being ruined for the casual gamer.

Thankfully even with a full-time job & reasonable social life I do find the time to give FM08 my full attention, all I can suggest is that you may want to reduce your expectations of how many matches you should be getting through in a single session. As others have said you do have to take the time to consider all aspects of the tactics, training, player/staff interaction etc to get the most out of this version, I'm afraid it is billed as a simulation of football management & as such will over time require more of your attention & knowledge to master, just look at today’s flight sim games compared to those I started playing on the C64 & Amiga they are so much more in depth I just can't get to grips with them anymore however I don't blame the game because it's my fault not the games.

I spent a considerable amount of time playing last night, tweaking tactics, and yes I do know about the specific player instructions. None made any difference.

I thought realism is what players of the game wanted. This is about as realistic as me dating Mariah Carey.

Well if you did that then i hate to say it but it is your tactics, otherwise everyone would have the same problem as you are and would be losing games by silly amounts.

Simple answer is that if it is your tactics and you're not happy with tweaking any further etc then perhaps this isn't the game for you?

I think alot more people are struggling to get to grips with the FM games these days.

For those without the benefit of time or patience to mess around with the tactical settings and training, the forums here and other fan-sites, have plenty of tactics for the more casual player to try. Many of these tactics require very little tweeking, it at all any. None are "killer" tactics, but do seem to produce a good level of success.

The "reality" or lack thereof, has very little to do with the game I belive. Any real manager would take considerable time working with his team and tactics. This is in essence what the game is "simulating". I think the later versions are more of a simulation than a game and many casual players would rather perhaps, pick up any team and get instant success.

Given the FM series has topped the games charts over a number of years, they're obviously doing something right and there is obviously a solid market for this "simulation" game.

I would also like to point out that I'm fed up with the torrents of abuse from posters these days - from both angles.

If you want help or advice from other players of FM or from SI, then ask in a polite and constructive manner. Far to easily are people ranting and bitching that it's the game's fault, SI's fault, etc...

Likewise however, many more veteran players on the forums instantly reply to requests for help with "it's your tactics...you suck at the game...buy better players..." - then threads inevitably turn sour.

With ANY tactic, there is always some tweeking required. I found that the Fiora2 tactic suits the style I want MY team to play. I did still have to tweek a few minor things to suit the players I have though. For example - why have a player set on long shots if his long shots rating is rubbish. Drop the slider for that player, but up the sliders for players with long shots over say, 15. It's as simple as that.

Please though in future, before ranting, try to have a look through the forums. There's plenty of useful information here. I'm a veteran of ALL the CM/FM releases and I still need help and advice from time to time. I also impart advice too.
