I'm trying to add Gillett as chairman of Liverpool (I've created him) but however much I make him like Liverpool, have board confidence, etc, when i start he always is "willing to listen to offers". Why is this and how can it be avoided?

This does the trick.

I added him as the chairman, then added liverpool to his fav clubs list with a 100 rating. Once you start a new game he will have a status of "would never leave the club he loves."
