Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Help required for West Ham please.

In my fourth season as Hammers and have a pretty good 4-4-2 with ;

Green

Van Den Borre Kompany Ferdinand Bale

Walcott/ Reo Coker Mascherano Adu
W-Phillips

Ashton Owen

However, and it's mainly against lower sides defending deep I struggle to find a way through, obviously due to the ball over the top to Owen and Walcott not working.

I'd like to develop a 5-3-2 which would allow me to get the ost out of certain players. Eg Van Den Borre and Bale pushing forward as wing backs. I have Upson on the bench so him, Ferdinand and Company could make a good back 3. Also Freddy Adu seems to play better just behind the front two rather than out wide.

So I'm looking for a base for something that looks like.

GK

CB CB CB

RWB LWB

CM CM

AM

CF CF

I have looked around but not sure if I am looking for a 5-3-2, 3-5-2, 5-2-1-3 or what?

Can you please point me in the direction of a tactic that may allow me to start basing this formation.

Many thanks.

Sussex - I'm a fellow Hammer and am starting to enjoy a little fruition with wwfan's set of latest tactics!.

I came 6th first season and am currently 4th in my second.

They are available at FMDownloads if your interested?.

Thanks 2ndchance. I'm doing ok with 4-4-2 and came 5th,5th,5th in first 3 seasons. I'm just trying to get best out of Adu and Van Den Borre. Could do with a really good creative midfielder as well. Mascherano and Reo Coker are all huff and puff, where have all the dribblers gone?!

I got Yaya Toure who stats are pretty good all round. Arteta is quality but gone to Chelski on my game.

Hi Sussex,

I am playing West Ham (pre-patch), and have similar squad . What I have found working best for me against small sides is:

-442 (I usually play diamond, but flat should be fine too);

- focus passind down both flanks;

- make AVB and Bale (in my case AVB and Marcelo)
forward run often (only against weaker teams!)and cross ball mixed;

- put short farrow on Walcott and Adu;

- push defensive line a little bit up, but make sure your DCs on man marking (to avoid counter attacks).

- place one of your strickers into Target man box but do not use target man. If you choose Owen then supply to feet, if Ashton - mixed. Ask TM hold up ball.

- give Reo Coker free role. He is very good running from 16 to 16 and if he has normal mentality he will support both attack and defense.

- global mentality normal. The reason is if you go attacking, it is exactly what AI expects. I have individual settings for some players (sort Rule of One settings).

One more thing. If your current setting are very different from my suggestions, it may take some time to adjust. So maybe you need to change settings gradually. Also a good strong TM may help (Bianchi (sp), Klose, Okaka etc.) if you can afford one.

Hope it helps
