I have been using wwfans How To Play FM07: Tactical Design and Management Strategy and overall it works wonders except from away from home i rarely play well. My team are always lacklustre and basically look like they can't be arsed. I've tried having a go, praising and even encouraging but still we lose or draw. I lost the champs league and fa cup final last season as the away team because of this. Even though I dominate possession and have more chances or the same they either get a dodgy deflection or my player decides to hand a goal to them (I'm not complaining about the game being unrealistic before you star!!!)

It's just a bit frustrating really as i know my team is class and if i stopped losing these silly games i would stop being 2nd and actually win the league. I use control when the teams have no farrows, possession when they have short farrows and defend when they have long farrows. At home I win pretty much all the time unless we decide to give the other team a one nil head start Can anybody help me please as it is driving me crazy! This is my team so you understand my frustration at not winning the league and being 2nd every season to different teams!

seen as no one can be arsed to reply to my pointless thread it seems i will have to. Yet again all the possession all the chances and the home team score by hitting the ball at my players so it goes in. Oh and my 3 £30m+ strikers missed 2 open goals! I'm well and truly sick what is the point if I'm using the right tactics have all the players and i still can't win.

i've come across the same problem many times, as have half the forum, if not more.
there is no answer for you that will fix it. the game has, without doubt, bugs.
there is a serious consistancy problem in the game. even if you cheat and eg, get all the best players in all the best positions, then make them even better via editors etc, then play a solid tactic, you will still loose some games you shouln't have lost. the twits around here will say that this happens in real life - no it does not. take arsenal a few seasons ago, how many games unbeaten did they go? it shows that if you get the best team in the league, you can be consistant.
the other thing i absolutely hate is this.
i adore watching barcelona. every match, they dominate the opposition, easily gaining 60% possession, it's all attack, attack, attack, at a slow pace with short passing. you cannot play this way in FM consistantly. at home, i can do this relatively frequently, but away, hardly ever. my point is, if you have the players with the ability, your tactics are sound, then it should be possible to dominate teams, create lots of chances and win consistantly. currently, this game does not allow this, imo. it used to though...strange.

Yeah it frustrates the life out of me but when I complain on here I'm told that if I wanted to be good at a game straight away go play FIFA which isn't exactly helpful. I don't mind a challenge but I know I shouldn't be letting in all these silly goals and my top strikers not scoring. My striker of 17 pace was outpaced by a defender of 2 yesterday which probably shpuldn't happen but never mind. I hope the next game is slightly easier or even has a two different playing levels like normal for me and the less tactically gifted and hard for the geniuses?? Only an idea and I'm not having a go there by the way.

I couldn't agree more.
At the minute i'm trying to get my Liverpool team play like the Liverpool of the 70's and 80's, you know - sit back, very short, patient passing, emphasis slightly on defence, drawing teams in and then scoring counter-attack goals almost at will...
I'm thinking of giving up and just floating through each match, accepting the nonsense the game throws at me...

You have a very good squad, so my guess is that your problem is how the opposition plays against you. General assumption is that AI plays more attacking style at home. However, if AI is "afraid" of you, they stick with something similar to their away game. Hence it is likely you are not countering them properly. Look at what work best against AI's tactic when you are playing home and apply it. Say they have short farrows and at home you would use attacking against them (just an example). Use the same or the next one (control?) and see what happens. Another way - start from counter-attack, watch the game and decide whether to go more attacking or more defensive.

Whenever I'm at home most teams have no farrows so I use control which works very well and them teh away team switch to long farrows which I use defend against. It's only away I get short farrows and I can't do anything about it as conter, possession don't really work and attacking gives away too many chances. I'm a bit stuck really and the frustration of it is taking all the fun out of the game for me.

You saying that with attacking tactic you give away to many chances. Ok, try to adjust the following:

- normal width instead of wide;

- normal defensive line instead of high;

- mixed closing down instead of high;

- slow down tempo a bit

- make FBs forward run mixed instead of often.
- make tackling normal or even easy so that you do not give away too many free kicks.

Basically create something between attack and posession so that you do not give away many chances yet rather attack. You may give up some posession as the result, but your players won't be out of position too often. Also, do you have any players in your TM box? If not, put Gyan there with TM supply mixed and give him instruction to hold up ball. Do not tickle "Use TM" box though. The other stricker should be the fastest one with good off the ball and anticipation stat (I know they all good at finishing).

Well I tried the attacking tactics away from I won 1 lost 2 all to teams I should beat easy according to the bookies. I had all the chances and possession except there striker happened to be standing in the right place (unlike my £40m donkeys!) when the ball hit off my players arse. Also my keeper and defence have gifted 3 goals as well. So far this season I've won 2 away lost 4 and I'm the favourites in all the games have all the chances all the percentage and I'm favourites to win the league. I'm fed up it ******** whats the point. I sit in anticipation for someone to accuse me of wanting to win every game, go play FIFA, I'm not doing it right or (my personal fave) it would happen in real life which it doesn't because how many times do you see Man Utd or Chelsea lose away to a team like Watford due to Marlon Harewoods clinical finishing when Wayne Rooney needs 20 shots to actual make the keeper pull off a world class save!

Look, I believe there are 2 different things mixed up here. First one is some sort of "lack of form" thing. It happens in the game from time to time and is very frustrating. Personally I don't have a clue how to counter it. Sometimes I even feel that me taking a break from game helps. That is I save game and turn it off, next day I continue and everything is fine (I do not cheat, what happened is already happened) even though I do not change one thing. Sometimes you just need to be patient. In my last save one of my strickers (Higuain) hadn't scored for 18 hours (as media said), but after that he has been scoring every game (hope it continues when I come back to game ). I just had a feeling that he is on the bad run and it should stop, so I kept playing him (I love him ). And it did not cost me a lot as the entire team performed well.

However, if you see consistency in something bad, and you cannot wait because it costs you games (defender makes stupid mistakes, etc.), you have to react. How? Well some tips are Here , others, as I said before, may be related to your tactic. Sometimes it helps to drop a player for a while and use backup. Another thing to try - ask your Ass Man to handle team talks. If I have about 6 days between games, I sometimes give all my players 2 days rest from trainning.

Don't give up! Honestly, I have had a similar problem, but the other way around: I used to win away and had lots of problems playing home. I do not know what exactly worked. Maybe my team has developed better understanding, maybe I stopped tweaking things every time, maybe I by chance got rid of players whose hidden stats caused a problem, or maybe it is just luck or combination of all af the above. It may sound stupid, but I kind of try to think what I would do irl. I cannot explain it, but sometimes I do not like a player, even though people say he is brilliant in their game, and this player never performs for me. Maybe I am crazy
