I was reading through the threds in this section and a thought poped up in my mind . As many of the peeps around are looking for a tactic which is 100% successive I can almost surely say that there is no such thing . What brings you to success is the tactical consistency coupled with team building .
I myself use a variation of the "442 diamond" tactic with an anchorman to link my deep laying defesive line with the midfield and a central midfielder with an arrow leading him forward during attacks . The 2 wide midfielders are laying on the side lines of the pitch trying to make flank attacks when possible . I have put individual mentality on each player keeping the balance by putting 5 outfild players on deffensive mentality and 5 players on attacking mentality which i think gives my tactic an all-round outlook . I put the tactic to be used by my reserve squad and the youngster squad too giving the chance to all the players in the club to play under the same tactic so that all members of the club are getting used to it . and after doing so only set piece takers are put in the rights slots according to their individual abilities . after this work is done I rarely change anything in the tactics during my games which are usually 10-15 seasons long .
The second part of the managers work is longer and harder . You as the manager of the team have to try and bring better players according to the finances that are available for this . You have to try and encourage young players to adopt the playstyle of the older players sometimes creating players that far exceed their initial quality (adopting preffered moves makes players more versatile in certain match situations) .
So whatever I do with my squad I dont change the tactics which is in my point of view a convinience for my players who dont need to adapt to a new tactic once and then . Also there is an atrribute in the manager profile linked with this - Tactical Consistency - and I dont think it is there for no reason .
so if you're using the same tactics all these years tell me...have you ever ha problems with the re-ranking system ? especially in the second season...?
Asenov - I have played FM using exactly the same style of management you describe. One tactic used by all teams at the club, and used year in, year out. If you use different players and continually improve them year on year I believe you will get success
This re-ranking system occurs when the AI changes its way of playing against you. The better you do, the more cautious the AI plays against you. But you don't necessarily need to change tactics, just get better players. As long as you do that you will stay one step ahead.
People emphasise too much on tactics in recent FM's, and should base more emphasis on good players. I think more so in FM 08 that good players are more important than making sure your players individual tactical instructions are in the correct place.
i think its a combination of players and tactics
in my 4th season as arsenal and im consistently winning trophies (i know its not to hard as a big team)yes the re-ranking makes life tougher but a minor tweak here and there and the odd new player is the answer....as jep says you have to try and stay 1 step ahead of the game
