Default Trains to Nuneaton

a simple update thread, where the highs and lows of my first real, long-term foray into lower league management will be distilled into a few short sentences.

Team - Nuneaton Borough

Season 1

Conference North - 1st - 29 won, 10 drawn, 3 lost (83 GF, 32 GA, +51 G.D.)

We won this at a trot, blasting away the competition in the second half of the season as a signing plucked from League One made his mark.
Cups suck, no need mentioning them

Season 2

Conference National - 13th - 18 won, 10 drawn, 18 lost (66 GF, 60 GA, +6)

We flirted with the relegation zone into February, when a few pickups from the lower leagues and the reserves of bigger clubs coalesced into a club with playoff form. Cups suck arse again.

Season 3

Conference National - 2nd - 21 won, 17 drawn, 8 lost (68 GF, 34 GA, +34 GD)

This year the league sucked arse. Our reliance on one striker, who scored half of our league goals, ultimately let us down. Though we made the playoff final, we went down in ugly fashion in penalties, bricking 3 of our last 4. Grays were a study in contrasts, as they calmly finished theirs to take a spot in the Football League which wasn't there.

After besting our opponents in the FA Trophy in 4 successive replays, we romped past Halifax on the back of a 6-0 away victory before dominating Rushden on the way to our first cup victory, a beautiful 2-0 match.

I'd rather be in League Two tbh.

considering the fact we've bled over 400,000 pounds since going professional, I think you may be right, as terrible as your pun may have been.

Season 4

Conference National - 1st - 27 won, 10 drawn, 9 lost, 82 GF, 44 GA, + 38 GD)

Finally. We ran well at the beginning of the year before hitting a bit of a bump, but we never fell out of the playoff spots.

The turning point came versus the then-first placed team Cambridge, whom we defeated 2-0. We didn't look back, building up a 12 point lead as March finished. we coasted into our coronation with ease, but a lack of focus at the end of the season was somewhat worrisome for me.

cups still sucked a big one, except for the 400,000 big ones we earned for losing at Upton Park (only 2-1 :eek. our FA Trophy defense wa pathetic - we meekly fell at the hands of Halifax 1-0. the Vans, the lowest of my priorities, was one and done for us, mercifully.

league football and all of its benefits beckons now. I've been working my scouts to the bone as I look for reinforcements and attempt to consolidate my new position.

Season 5

League Two - 1st - 25 won, 10 drawn, 11 lost - 82 GF, 60 GA, +22 GD

Oh, sh*t. In the first 16 or so weeks of the season, we loitered around the playoff spots before shooting up into 3rd. A late season push saw us jump into first with 11 matches to play, but we dipped into 6th following a particularly bad loss to Carlisle. My club responded to my skewering with a near perfect run-in, grabbing the lead with 7 matches to go and refusing to let go.

One of my Bosman signees was snatched up by a bigger club from his minimum fee release clause, but he was replaced at the eleventh hour by a superb loanee I'll miss next season.

We lost in both the Carling Cup and FA Cup to Premier League opponents (Fulham R1, Blackburn R3, respectively), and crashed out of the Vans in the sectional semifinal.

We're going to get killed next season.

I've a Nuneaton game running (not playing it so much) had to make an extra year in the Championship other than that I got them into the Premier League on straith promotions
