I have 950k in the til right now with 325k to be used for transfers. What do you want me to do with it, scout Wales? I took a 20 pound per week, part-time scout and sent him to Holland to find players.
In an update, VVV just offered 1.3mil for a 6k midfielder. I issued a "hands-off" warning. Is that stupid or what?
You scout UK & Ireland. When you get to SPL and are financially strong enough, you send scouts across Europe. Only the biggest clubs can afford that.
"Hands-off" warnings are fine, I use them myself if I wants clubs to back off. The player may not agree of course, but that's a different issue [/semi-tipping]

Well first off, you should ask yourself what part-time £20/wk scout is going to be free to bugger off to Holland for a couple months? Part-time means he works when he can get the time free from his day job. You could probably make a better case that if you were a pro club and have a full-time scout that it would be reasonable, but you probably won't achieve pro status until you hit the SPL anyway.
As for a club offering you that much dosh for your 6k guy, you might as well sell him, because I can almost guarantee he will get upset if you reject bids from big clubs. Nonetheless I commend the hands off warning, because I do it all the time in the hopes of keeping my best players for as long as I can.

Agreed.
My take on the "worth 5k but is obviously worth more" is that in relation to others of a similar standard in that division, then that is what he is worth. In the Scots Div 3, there won't be a lot of players (if any) that are worth over 50k and those would be considered the best in the division. If you put that 5k/top range player into a 1st division team, then his value would probably increase, but he's no longer a top class player, his value would reflect that of an average player in that division, because that is what he is. Until he proves otherwise, of course.
The other points being made are concerning accepting very high bids for star (or maybe just good) players. I have no problem with this at all. If you look at the Poofland leagues, it is notorious for over-charging a team who wants to buy Poofland natives, which still baffles me. Look at a DC who moved from Nottm Forest to Spurs a couple of seasons ago, or the one who moved from Derby to Spurs too. Both highly priced and only so because they were Pooflanders and young. If a similar standard of player were available in Scandiland, for instance, he'd be valued at a tenth of the price. If teams are daft enough to pay over the odds for a player born in that country, then fine, I'll sell without any remorse, if it means getting my team out of the red.
But then again, I'm not very good at the game, so what do I know.
Scouting overseas. If your club has just made 1 million off the sale of a good player, then why would you not as an ambitious manager spend 10-15k to send a scout O/S on a junket.I have no dramas with that.
Pricing of players goes both ways as buying real quality is going to cost you both arms, a leg your spleen and a testicle. In present save I spent 4 million on a 19yo Midfielder, played 3 years with Instituto and I rate him as 1 of my best ever finds. The price for a young kid was steep and was a huge gamble on my part. He turned out to be a legend. I of course have spent large sums on players who turned out to be Crap.
Present season, I picked up a 24yo Striker who looked pretty damned good on a free(no club) in just 7 games he rates over 8 gets 9 assists and 4 goals, Premier league teams come a calling and he's sold off for 2.4mil.I'd be daft not to take the cash as the club is in a negative cash flow.Do I think this unrealistic, IRL yes but in game terms no, because buying a quality player to replace him is going to cost Chico forementioned price.
I'm actually having a bit of trouble in the same department myself. I have now built up quite a good team of youngsters. Bought them young and cheap, now they are the heart of the team. Big clubs are almost running down the poor chairman's door, the players want to leave and won't resign contracts. However they won't run out for another 3-4 years. Of a shortlist of apx 120 players the assman say 10 are approachable. They are all pooh. So the choice is to sell them for a huge profit (offers from 1M to 2.5M per head so far), or keep them. I'm opting for first option so far, as selling them will make us rich, but slide down the table quick. It's of course unrealistic that clubs will pay 2.5M for 19-20yo Northern Irish players. But on the other side, these players are the heart of the team, they are non-replacable, so if a club were to sell them, they would cost. 1M wouldn't be too much of a problem realism-wise, as they are worth from 150K-230K, but 2.5M I feel is over the top, even if they are top-notch quality. Especially are captain and DMC could perhaps fit into a poor EPL side, at least as backup.
It's well and good with heaps of money, but when you can't spend them on new players it's not worth anything.
