...does anyone else waste their versatile players.
I have a player DRLC DM MRLC who has played for me for a couple of years now, he was a permanent fixture on the bench as I had good players in all of his positions. Finally my two DRs have had reasonably long term injuries and Mr Versatile has made the position his own with a string of excellent performances.
I think in my LLM way, I tend not to have huge squads with quality backup so a versatile player naturally gets a place on the bench. He did OK as a substitute but rarely picked up more than a 6 on stats. This is probably due to his lack of time on the park.
I have realised that this is a common theme through most of my saves. I think, in future, I will give my players longer spells in the 1st team before I decide that they are permanent bench warmers.

Me too. I like to have versatile player on the bench to keep as many positions covered as possible. That said, if he's good enough for my first team he'll play and end up moving position severl times during a match.

Whenever I get a versatile player my first reaction is "play him during a game, and if his position is covered by a sub then it doesn't matter what player goes off, any other position he can cover and the sub takes his place, and if he's injured then the same applies."
Actuality? He gets wrapped in cotton wool, sits on the bench, and eventually gets pÃ*ssed at the lack of first team football.

In my experience the versatile player has been average at best. It takes too long to find his ideal position. I prefer to fill my team with specialists within an area.
I hate D/SC as a playing attribute!

Same thing here. I have a guy that can play in every position in the MC/DR square. His attributes actually look decent, but he hardly gets a game. I can never figure out where to use the poor sod. He's not even on the bench much anymore.
