So the club expects me to invest and rebuild, do they? I began the season by scouting for a huge number of youths to bolster the club's forces, signing 9 kids in all. But besides finding a new avenue to goal through a fantastic 16 yo striker (who finished the season as the club's top scorer before being scalped by Wolves at the end of the season ), this season has been a virtual carbon copy of the previous - with the exception that the FA Trophy run was a pain in the arse that sent the team into a 7 game losing streak from which we never recovered. Still, the club finances are very healthy and I'm convinced the squad is getting better every season, so with any luck and total disregard for cups, next season could be ours.

So after I punished myself for making crap jokes, I set about the task of reinventing the team. New staff, new tactics, new ways of training and some new talented players to rekindle my interest in getting this club out of the Conference and into the league. The revelation of the season was a new 17 year old striker, who cantered through the Conference with a remarkable 46 goals - not bad for a 28k investment. Like I promised myself last season, I ignored the cup competitions and used them to give my youth players a run on the pitch. But I was totally surprised to continuously progress in the FA Trophy, and when the youths managed to qualify us for the 4th round, I began to take the competition a little more seriously. Meanwhile, the club stitched up an amazing run of 20 matches without a loss to fling the club into the upper reaches of the league and to rest at 3rd by the end of the regular season. However, the team fell over at the final hurdle again, after tearing apart Barnet in the playoff semi finals 4-1 on agg, the team collapsed to Hinckley 2-0 in the FA Trophy final and 4-0 to Bradford in the playoff final. Five seasons in the Conference National is really going to take a toll on my loyalty.

Fair enough Guinness, next one will be shorter. I was trying to keep it short, but when so much happens in a season, it's hard not to jot it all down. Cheers for the heads-up.

Arkay - no, the attendance hasn't really gone up that much. The average attendance in my season in the Conference North was 1254, while the last two (reasonably sucessful) seasons the club has averaged 1537. Not quite sure why that is, but you can't quite make people go to a football game, even harder when they're imaginary computer game people.
