The same would apply for the big domestic teams, in recent seasons Chelsea and Liverpool appointed new managers. Would any of the english candidates be good enough to take them on.....No, hence the appointment of foreign coaches.
That is why, personally I am happy to see that Scolari looks to have got the job, his records speaks for itself. You dont have to be english to know what it means to the nation to win a major honour. (Speaking English would help though!!!!)
| I will never agree with this. I would not care if Beckenbauer had won 6 world cups on the trot, I would not have had him as England manager. He is German and would do anything to beat an English team.
Why would Scolari be different. Why would he want an Enfgand team to beat Brazil (or a Portugese team team to beat Brazil, come to that). If he does then he is only in it for the money and the glory, not the passion.
Sven didn't care because Sweden were never going to win the World cup anyway.
Can you imagine Ferguson as England manager, he can't, as he wants England to lose every game they play, he admitted it when asked if he would ever consider the England job.

Boys Scolari's command of the English language is not the best, so he should fit right in with the team |

Enfgand is a country round about the same size as England, they also speak English.

I wouldn't want the Bolton manager to get the England job, just because of when he was at Blackpool and told the press that his team were playing for places at Wembley after the first play-off leg where they won 2-0 away.
This sharp piece of media manipulation saw the other side beat Blackpool 3-0 in the second leg and gain promotion.
Perhaps he was still learning his craft back then.

Church... I can agree with this to some extent, but if this is the case, you could potentially argue that against any manager or player for that instance domestically.
If you are the manager of a team or nation then anybody worth their salt would want to achieve great things and be successful. It is what you are paid to do and thats all that counts.
Remember Gary McCallister scoring for Liverpool against Coventry which subsequently sent them to relegation. Sentimental values should be brushed aside as anyone with ambition and crave success will strive to deliver.

| I live in the North East and I watch the football with Geories, Maccams and Smoggies, some Hartlepudlians and some from Darlington.
If Sunderland are playing, the Geordies and the Smoggies will be supporting the other team, regardless of who they are. Similarly when any of the other teams play. When England play, however, each and every one of those people is on one side only.
Team and country are different. Gary McCallister could happily do that against Liverpool. Try sticking him in an England shirt and ask him to do it against Scotland. I think you would find that a different story.

| Scoring against an old club is one thing. Actively trying to beat the country of your birth is another.

*Church in another player naming shocker*
Also, given the thread that we're in, if England are so over-rated, why do we deserve a top class manager. If we're such a suposed middle of the road team, why don't we apoint a suposed middle of the road manager like the English ones in the frame?
