Thought it might have been
My response is along the lines of church's musings. Why do they need someone with proven success at that level? I personally believe SM has done ok at 'boro.. He doesn't have the best list going around but he's got them playing well.
For the record, I'm not sure it's possible to take f uck off the wrong way |

Sorry for triple post. Don't start with the postboosting crap as I couldn't care less what my karma rating is!
In response to Church, I still don't understand what having an inexperienced manager in charge of England simply becuase he is English will achieve. When I mention experience I am referring mainly to their tactical nous and ability to swing matches with bold moves. I don't feel any of our managers have that ability yet. That's not to say they should be ignored in the future but I personally feel this is the right move at this time.
Scolari has pedigree and has proved he can get the best out of a bunch of primadonnas with the Portupoof team. He was also brave enough to substitute the ex-Barca now Real poof when things were not going well.

| Frank Lowy is that you? Australia; probably. England; you seriously believe there are no Englishmen with sufficient football tactical nous to guide their national team?
/Frank Lowy is the chairman of FFA (football federation of australia)

I personally believe there is NO Englishman that is tactically astute enough to guide our nation to world cup glory.
I think all the english candidates would do a decent enough job if they were appointed but would they have enough in the locker to bring us forward. Scolari Would. He has been there and done it before.
The same would apply for the big domestic teams, in recent seasons Chelsea and Liverpool appointed new managers. Would any of the english candidates be good enough to take them on.....No, hence the appointment of foreign coaches.
That is why, personally I am happy to see that Scolari looks to have got the job, his records speaks for itself. You dont have to be english to know what it means to the nation to win a major honour. (Speaking English would help though!!!!)

| I cannot think of one winning world cup manager who was appointed because he had "tactical nous and ability to swing matches with bold moves".
No mananger appointed to a foreign team has ever won a world cup. Mainly (I think) because no team capable of winning the world cup would ever consider appointing a foreign manager.
Becekenbauer had no experience, Mennotti had little experience, the manager of Brazil in 1958-1962 had no football experience whatsoever. Jacquet had retired from management and been appointed technical director of France in 1991 before being appointed manager in 1994. None of these would have been appointed by england on your criteria.

Church is absolutely right! I personally believe that the Bolton manager should get the job. I think he is probably the best English manager there is available at the moment and has proven that he has very good man-management skills: sure the most important thing for the current England squad!
