Elgin City Second Division 2011/12
I said we'd go up in preseason.
Had some money to spend and while I agreed to fees for 5 players, none would join me save for a young striker from St. Andrews on a free. :/
We lost our first two games and it didn't look good. We recovered though and spent most of the season in the top four. Brought in 4 players over the January transfer window. A SW/DM from Dundee, an ML from Dunfermline (fearing my star winger is going to leave soon), a 19 year-old strike from Buckie Thistle and a an AM R / ST. from Raith. Total spent: 7k.
We had a wonderful run in the second half. 12 unbeaten (* still with patch 1 mind you.
). We finished with 70 points, our highest total to date. Remember, last year we were third with 55 points. Sadly, Clyde ran away with the league and a total of 79 points. We finish second. Third had 52 points. Playoffs again.
We lose 1-0 at home to Montrose, but win 2 - 1 away. We're through to the final against Livingston. We never had a chance. We went down 2-0 early and chased the game. We lost 5 - 1 as I went for a rather attacking formation to try to salvage it at 3-0.
We had our first 30 goal scorer, an ex-Hearts reserve striker and two promising strikers with 11 and 18. 71 total goals again, which ties the team record. 43 against. Ultimately, we're little more than also rans.
