Good stuff Kallinan. I don't understand why you are reluctant to use your wage budget, it's not like your still in Div 3. But as they say, it's your game...
Euro qualification this season for sure
Two reasons.
1) I didn't feel the wage budget was responsible given Elgin's income. Until I really started winning in Division 1, their attendance had not increased significantly in the last couple years. Not counting revenue from players sold, Elign only is making £150k profit per year. Divide that by 52 weeks, and I guess I could up my wages to £6k-7k/wk, but nowhere near my budget in the high 20's.
I have a good team, as I've managed to win lots of games. And I don't want to feel I *need* to sell my best players just to pay the wages.
2) Wage structure. Remember, I have trouble signing players. So if I manage to convince some half-decent striker (who doesn't want to sign) to play for me for £2,000/wk, what would I have to pay my star striker currently making £140/wk? It would quickly spiral out of control considering my still modest income.

Should become tough to save Elgin from relegation, but we all have faith in your skills
Yeah, I'm fully expecting a relegation battle next year. I'm still losing out on any quality signing, my squad is aging, and I don't think we have the quality to regularly compete with Premiership sides. I expect a lot of ugly losses.
Season 2013/14
Elgin City - Scottish Premier League
Busy summer! The board announced the club would be turning professional, and expanding Borough Briggs to 5,500 capacity. I could finally sign players this summer. Combined transfer fees for last 8 years combined: £14k. This year? £465k. My wages have also soared from £3.7k to £10.6k as many of my first team players wanted large, large raises. Couldn't blame 'em after seeing £1M of TV money come in.
My only goal was to avoid relegation. I let the kids play in the cups, and concentrated on staying up. The season was up and down. But an early unbeaten streak of 8 and a mid-winter unbeaten streak of 12 helped. The lower half of the Premiership was not much different than Division One, thankfully. I beat both Celtic & Rangers once, but they proved they were the far superior sides.
Never did find a permanent solution for right wing, but my new young keeper has proved to be of top quality when healthy. My star left winger continued to be reliable with a 7.43 rating, and Scotty McScoresalot (striker from previous update) scored 28 goals. At the end of the season, Elgin found themselves in third - only two points ahead of Dundee and a whopping twenty-four behind Celtic.
Scottish Premier League: 3rd, 16-11-11, 66-55, 59pts Scottish Cup: Quarter Finals by Celtic. League Cup: 3rd Round at Hibernian. Old Firm: Rangers win SPL; Celtic win Scottish & League Cups, make it to semi-finals of Champions Cup
Euro Cup for me, although the media still thinks I'm going down.
The board just announced that Borough Briggs will now be an all-seater... obliterating £5.5M of the £7.5M balance I had built up.
Strange enough, players cut their contract demands roughly in half after the stadium expansion was announced. I think they know more about Elgin's finances than I do.
I'm also currently playing with Elgin City, albeit on CM 01-02. My stadium holds over 6k people, so capacity went down quite a bit after '01, it seems.
Bwahaha. I just had to post this micro-update regarding Midfielder McAmbitious.
Three times, he states to the press that he wants to leave to win some silverware. I say "Hey, your keester's going nowhere, I'm trying a build a trophy winning team." Twice he was okay with that. Third time, he understandably refused to back down.
Asked to be transfer listed. Granted. The next day, we beat Deportivo 5-3 (!) in the first leg of the Euro Cup. Now he's not sure if he should leave.
These players have far more personality than I thought.
