Ah, glorious. Now I have Division Three players regularly turning down Elgin, despite us being a First Division squad. Even when I offer them double their current wage.
It's always hard to sign players while in Div 2 and 1, in my experience. I remember I only managed to sign really better players when my East Fife squad reached the UEFA Cup - Europe is a big boost in domestic reputation.

Likewise. Noone liked me at Cowden until we got to Europe. Of course, they still don't like me...but they're ok playing for me!
Season 2009/10
Elgin City - Scottish First Division
Huzzah. I finally feel like a true lower league manager.
Again, I was unable to significantly improve the Elgin squad. I picked up a good young French goalkeeper, and a promising young striker... but no game breakers. Right full back remains a glaring weakness, and my strikers are likely inadequate for First Division play. And the board still refuses to improve our "fairly basic" training facilities.
The year started off surprisingly well. I almost dealt my star left winger for £700k, however the deal fell through at the last moment. My left winger & star centre back powered Elgin to 27 points by early January, good for third place on the table.
Then, Elgin imploded. My left winger was injured for months, and didn't fully recover until the last month of the season. My right full back's poor play cost the team several key games. Elgin captured only 7 points from their remaining 19 games - free falling straight to relegation.
Looks like those media predictions were finally right. Somehow, the board & fans still love me. My initiation as a LLaMa is now complete.
