Could be interesting to discuss further, but I guess it is best to end it here. We'll just agree that we disagree, as the saying goes
The Finn is right on both counts. Meat is expensive and the scenery is great. Throw in gorgeous women  and expensive beer too :thdn:

| I thought we hashed this out at the hut It isn't the president's responsibilty for state and local disaster preparation. It isn't the federal government's responsibility. It may be different in smaller and more centralized countries like England or Austria (as examples) but in the US there is a lot of local control, and hurrican preparedness falls under that. The highest up the chain you can lay blame for this one is on the governor of Louisiana. Maybe the post-Katrina relief was not what it should have been, but to blame Bush for the shortcomings of the city of New Orleans, the State of Louisiana and its legislature is just one more way people that hate Bush take cheap shots at the man. Mayor Ray Nagan, Governor Kathleen Blanco, the Louisiana state senate and house of representatives come on down!

The communist regime was horrible, perhaps the most horrible we have had in history, at least fairly recent history, no doubt. But the US in many ways are worse. The Soviets didn't invade countries all over the world to control them, they did only do horrible things in their relative near region. The US has done this to a much greater degree than Soviet (terror-wars in South-America since 1954 Guatamala for instance, with a peak in the 70s and 80s), but they also invaded and occupied countries far away on the pretext of containing communism, in Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Korea - and now Iraq and Afghanistan, and pretty much the rest of the region. There has been much discussion of the Nuclear crisis in Cuba - and rigthly so - but few people know that the US did the same thing in Turkey years before Soviet tried to do the same at Cuba.
| I don't agree with that. Communism has nothing to do with Stalin, Mao Ze Dong and other. Communism is a type of economical regime, not political. Like capitalism. Stalin, Mao etc. were tyrans. Nothing less, nothing more. The only thing they knew about communism is how to take pesants land and make it national esset. Every other idea of communism was far beyond their comprehension.
Anyhow. Stalin was no better than Hitler, imho. They had a pakt of no aggression on each other. However, Stalin did have problems with Hitler taking over Poland and he crossed sides. That, as you can imagine, made the furer angry, and you know what followed. The only difference between Stalin and Hitler is that Stalin only wanted Baltic nations + Poland + Czechoslovakia + balkan states, and Hitler wanted all. The methods they have used were the same.
However, I do not think that Husein can be compared to Hitler. To Stalin? Perhaps. However, if Iraqes would not have supported Husein, they would have eliminate him themselves. Do you really think that Al-Quaeda was active only outside Arab states?
Anyhow, the war in Iraq shouldn't have started in the first place. Too many civilians died on both sides as is. USA should think abuot their foreign politics, though.

I think that we should all take a moment to be thankful that such well written and informed debate can happen in this forum.
This simply wouldn't be posted in the other forums full of cry-babies moaning that Real Madrid have turned down their £56 million pound offer for a player and that it's a bug because they haven't managed to win the Champions League 43 seasons in a row.
You should all give yourselves a little pat on the back for your efforts.

What I was referring to was his lying to the Nation and the people of N'Awlinz without turning bright red.

Take it as patronising if you want mkus but it was meant (and still is) as a genuine compliment to the above posters who have taken time to construct replies that show thought, understanding of complex issues and insight into the possible outcomes of action on those issues.
And then, after all that, agree to disagree in a calm, sensible manner. I rarely see that on internet talk boards, as they are too full of hormone fueled types I mentioned earlier. This ties back in neatly with that thread about the average LLM being older, wiser and slightly more socialist than most that was on a while back.
