I tried managing the reserves and youth side in my last save, the theory being that I could make sure that my hot prospects got a decent amount of game time to develop them, before blooding them in the first team.
I got bored, and gave control back to my Ass Man after a few games  | |

I just let the assistant win his wages.
I do specify some players I want him to play in order to get developed/regaign fitness though.

| I must say it was a bit similar, after notching up a game time on the save data of over 24 hours and only being in january of my first season I've decided to abandon total control and settle for just picking the team for the ass man and senior player.
