I've just hit a run of good form and one or two of my players are probably due a bit of well earned recognitiion. However I'm wary of doing so as every time I've done so in the past as soon as I do the player in question plays crap in the following matches. I praised a striker who got two 9's in a week with two hat tricks and the following few games he was pants. I gave a midfielder moderate praise and then he played crap for weeks. Will they get upset if I don't tell them how good they've been, and if so is it worth ruining my form to keep them happy?
I would suggest that you dont praise a player unless they have a good run of form of 4 or 5 games with consistently high rating. Then you will find that the form is unlikley to fluctuate quite so much although it cant be guaranteed.
aguero, when he first signed for me had an amazing start, something like 7 goals in 8 starts and high ratings so i praised him...afer that he didn't score for 2 months!
Did his morale change? The main use of praise is to improve morale?
I have not tested this on 08, but on 07 I just used a simple formula for choosing which option to use in the praise selection. If you got it correct their morale shot to Superb. After 3 or 4 times of doing this you also get onto their favoured personal list. As I have said, this is not tested in 08:
Add up the last 3 form scores for the player and then base your response on the following:
19 or less = below
21 = acceptable
22 = pleased
23 and above = delighted
You will notice 20 is missing, 20 is either Below or Acceptable, but it depends on each player, I tend to go for below and if that gets a bad response, I make a note about that player and then use acceptable for him from then on when he has a total of 20.
Hmm, interesting comments. For me to praise them I wait until they have at least 7 or above in their last five games, in fact I try to wait as long as possible before commenting so that my opinion seems justified to the media. I have also criticised a couple of players to the media (surely there should be an option to do this 'in house', do managers slag off their players in the media IRL?), in fact one added me to his list of favoured personnel when I told him he was playing rubbish as he was getting a lot of 6's as opposed to just below, perhaps it has something to do with their level of professionalism and/or the new ratings system.
The Lambs, say a player's form was 5-5-8-7-9, by your rating system they would get a 'delighted'. Would you adjust your rating at all, our would you have already criticised them for the two 5's already?

I also factor in:
their age (U21's are affected by negative faith in their abilities more severely)
our most recent schedule (3 away games in a row against the elite in my league gets more patience, especially if I'm trying to climb out of the relegation zone or mid table obscurity)
their personality (balanced requires more finesse than resolute and very determined)
their current/potential abilities (a player who is rated "decent" for my current league and who is also a backup filling in for an injury gets more praise for giving me two 7's in a row when they have a 5.88 overall rating than my starter who gets 2 7's while possessing a 7.40 overall rating).
In 07 I rarely praised my players in the media, but gave praise in team talks when they've deserved it. After 3 seasons about a third of the entire team love me (I'm on their favourite personnel list), even some youngsters in the reserves and U18s whom I've never really 'managed', so I dare say this method works. Or maybe bringing the team 2 divisions higher in 3 seasons has something to do with it
