It's a stupid idea that will fail, and will probably put the club out of business. The old owners have put their club on the brink of oblivion.

It might be fine for a couple of years if the club is promoted, but as soon as the success tails off everyone will leave and there'll be no money left.

How do people think they're going to pick the team anyway when they've never heard of the players available except in the manager's training report. Are they all going to load up FM and check the stats on there? Seems to me they should stick to playing the game.

Still me at the moment.

I said in the first place they wouldn't succeed in buying the level of club they were talking about and would have to go below the conference to get full ownership. To fulfil their stated aims they've had to settle for 51% of a recently professional club.

I said nowhere near the 50,000 would pay. It stands at 20,000ish at the moment and this "investment" will hardly inspire the other 30,000.


As for the rest of it, well the test will come with time.

Will the stated aim of the "owners" picking teams and tactics and identifying transfer tragets work?
I say no.

Will the 20,000 continue to fund a struggling Blue Square Premier side?
I say no.

Will all these "owners" show up at matches, boosting the income?
I say no.

Will this be some revolutionary change in British football?
I say no.


How will SI implement it?
Sadly, probably by removing Ebbsfleet from the databse in a couppe of years when they go bust and have to restart in the lower reaches, at which point the 30 remaining MFC members will pull out too.

Obviuosly we have to be very careful for the points raised by Dave C above. (Where have you been Dave? GQ misses you ) However I hope it can work, I really want it to work as, as a concept I like the idea of it. What fan would pass up a chance to have a say in their club.

Yes there are huge implications if it fails and potential huge pitfalls however investment in this particular club is wise, as, due to their recent name change, the Eurostar has provided funding/ Sponsorship (IIRC) as it was done for advertising reasons. (I would dig out the 4-4-2 I read this in but I fear I binned it ). I hope they can make a success of it. It seems similar to situations where supporters trusts take over ownership of clubs. I think, someone in the football league is run this way (I forget who).

Can you imagine the suppporters spokesperson for the club. (Fred reminds you to check the forums to look at the decided lineup) :thup:

I won't deny that I'm not interested in seeing how this works, but I honestly can't see how it will.

First off, the original plan was to get at least 50,000 members to sign up and pay. In the end, only 20,000, thats less then half of what was intended. That shows that a massive number of people have already lost interest in this project, and I think it wouldn't be unfair to guess that at least half of the board are likely to lose interest by the end of the season. Lets not forget that it's unlikely to more then a handful of those involved know even the slightest thing about Ebsfleet.

Then we have the team selection process. How can 20,000 people vote on who they think should be playing each match when pretty much all of them will have never seen the team play? You can't just pick a team based on hear say. You need to know who's playing well, and who isn't, and also, who probably isn't in the best condition, or mentallity to play. The team are playing well at the moment, but this could all be ruined by a bunch of know nothings making the decisions.

My honest opinion is that within a couple of seasons, this will have crumbled, and been a massive failure, possibly ruining Ebsfleet in the process. Whilst I would like to see this succeed, as it would make a nice change to have football fans running a club rather then money grabbing tyrants, I just don't see how it can possibly work with so many people with no connection, and probably little interest in the club, running it.
