In every game I tend to sign up at least a couple of former greats, such as Vieri, Zola, Rivaldo, Figo... having them in the team seems to work wonders for the happiness of the young'uns. Also, they have a wealth of experience to pass around, and on occasion they can even pull off a great performance or two.
As for the current greats, I rarely have the cash required to splash 30M+ on one player, I prefer buying 5 great but less known players.
There was that time when I managed to snap up Henry on a free... I think that was in FM05 or so. Having the Henry-Trezeguet strike team up front... fun times, fun times.  |

To the OP: Doesn't get much more famous than CRonaldo surely? Regarded as one of the best in the world by many.
As for me, I've not signed anyone who would be considered "famous", although I'm only in the summer of 2010 with Mantova, hardly the most glamorous club. The most famous though would be Arturo Lupoli. Following him as the only one people may have heard of really is Daniele Dessena, and anyone who doesn't follow the Serie A has no idea who he is.

| *cough* KAKA *cough*. Anyway, famous and best player in the world are two different things. David Beckham is famous, Ronaldo is fantastic but nowhere near as famous as Beckham. Oh, and Kaka is better 
The most famous player I ever signed was David Beckham on '07. On FM08, the most famous player I've signed is Cherno Samba for AFC Telford! :eek:

Gary Lineker from Japan on CM2 (I think) for Sunderland to play alongside Don Goodman and/or Phil Gray.
Scored a hatrick in his 3rd game, and got the only 10 rating I ever saw from my players on that version!!
Remember Adrian Heath retiring from my Burnley side in that version too....gutted!!
Those were the days!!

I got Ronaldinho for £73M in FM 2007 when he was 31...was still my best player for 5 seasons!

At the start of every CM 01/02 game I played I always signed a certain Michael Jackson on a free JUST because of his name. I didn't let him anywhere near my youths though.
