Managing in Italy I find the quota system a real pain in the arse, you can only sign one non eu player from a foreign team per year/season (note to self: check to see if I wasted last years allocation...). That said, it seems to have worked for the Italian national side...

The proposed quota has nothing to do with England being bad. Sepp Blatter is the one making the suggestions and it has widely been condemned in England.

If the quota would drag down the level of football in the Premiership then maybe Blatter has a point. Whose fault is it that a lot of English players aren't good enough for the top Prem teams?

I'm pretty sure that if there was a quota it would break EU rules. In cricket teams are only allowed two overseas players but anyone from the EU doesn't count. But then apart from Britain, Holland is the only other cricket country

Quota's are a solution for the national teams of the big countries, but also for the leagues of smaller countries. If there would be such a quota, english clubs would be forced to think about a better academy, instead of stealing big (and also average) talents of foreign clubs for to less money (the arsenal and now also chelsea and liverpool strategy).

Also if there are less good players sold from any small league, the clubs from those leagues have a bigger chance of competing in the champions league (where you can earn the big money). Today the gap between the Spanish, English and Italian top clubs and the rest of Europe (except for Lyon and Bayern) has never been so big and it's only becoming bigger. A quota could be the first step,in what I think is the right direction, more equal competition in Europe
