I just bought the game last Friday and as a former PS2 LMA fanatic I am SHOCKED at how dam good this game is... I pretty much came in my pants when I seen what you could do in comparison to how little could be done on LMA manager.
However, as a recovering **** managing-gameaholic I often find myself too impatient to bother fiddling with different tactics relating to the pitch size or weather or how small the opposition striker is.... basically once I set up my tactics I leave my tactics, I often leave the team talks to the assistant and to my dismay I even go on holiday for a day to speed it up further. However when I do put in the 10 or 15 minutes effort of researching form & stats etc I end up losing (let’s just say Man Utd aren’t going to win the league this season!)
So any one got basic fool-proof match winning tips???

Having also changed from LMA (ps2) to FM06 (mac) a while back I understand what your saying.
This game simply blows it out of the water. The down side (if you can call it that) is there is no 'super tactic' which wins 75% of games, which was pretty achievable in the LMA series. Certainly not when your Shrewsbury Town anyway!
FM08 has even more detail but I always start with the same 4-4-2 tactic home and away (except for extreme cercumstances). Once the game starts though I am a Ranieri style tinker man.
If you play a balanced game and set your back four and DM to MENTALITY-DEF / CREATIVEF-LITTLE / CLOSINGD-RARELY it gives you a chance to see what the opposition is throwing at you, also the sliders in the overall team tactics window can be adjusted in those areas without affecting you back line. Like wise you can un-tick the fullbacks so they push up more and close down. I would suggest matching your back line with your overall mentality too (ATT=PUSH UP & DEF=DEEP). This helps the team stays compact, when I first started I was ATT and defending deep, terrible idea. Zonal marking is a must in my book too, maybe tell the CBs to mark tight. If your Man Utd I would imagine its easier to get an all round tactic but down here in League one (yes we got promoted!) it's pretty much impossible, I haven't found it anyway.
