How good and reliable are these options? coz i was thinking to try these out as i'm not sure what what instructions to set for each player.

IMHO they are shocking and are one of the things that have probably contributed most to people not being able to understand team tactics, as they put the emphasis on player's, purely as individual's and not part of a team.

I really think it's a matter of personal preference IMO, I use them very occasionally if, say, I'm a goal or two up in the last minute and bring a DC on for a ST; the DC will retain all the ST's individual instructions unless you change them so I'd just quickly select "Set to center-back"
