Default FM08: England "A land of Hope and Glory?"

Following Englands dismal real life performance I was wondering how the wanna-be England managers were doing now they are in control.

I got it in 2009. McClaren got sacked. So far I have won the first 3 games of the 2010 World Cup Qualifiers and also won 2 friendlies. Wayne Rooney is top scorer with 7 goals.

I started with England for a change from club management. I got beaten by Germany in my first friendly 3-2. However, I managed to turn it around against Israel who we beat 3-0 without the unfit Owen and injured Rooney. In the following match against Russia we won 2-0 thanks to Andy Johnson's brace.

Found a new no. 1 in Steven Harper of Newcastle who I played in the second half against Germany following Robinson dismal performance in the first half.

With Owen, Rooney and Crouch all out. I initially started with Bent and Ashton up front but they didn't work particularly well together so I swapped Bent for Andy Johnson which proved to be far more productive in terms of goals and general attacking play.

After a scare against Estonia, we eventually came from behind to win 2-1 with Ashton scoring his first international goal for the winner.

To secure qualification we a game in hand we headed to Russia and left with all 3 points, thus having ensured we will be in Austria and Switzerland. Poor defending cost us 2 goals but the result was never in any doubt due to out superior attacking quality. Final score was 4-2 with Owen scoring a brace, and Chelsea duo Terry and Lampard also getting themselves on the score sheet.
