Default Scouting Question

After enjoying many save started with Lower League Clubs however never really following the strict guidelines of this forum i have recently began a few different saves sticking to the rules of the LLaMa's.

One question i do have however surrounds scouting and to what depth this is generally accepted at. Obviously scouting neighbouring countires is accepted but i was wondering if scouting specific clubs would be accepted? Maybe if you come up against a team in a pre-season friendly or leaue match would it be considered realistic to then send your scout to look specifically at that club? The reason i thought this may not be considered 'legal' is because it could result in a player scouting a club where a 'known' player is and hoping their scout will return a report on that player so they can make a bid for them. So what are the thoughts on scouting a specific club as opposed to an entire nation/region?

Scouting a club is generally considered a no-no. If you see a player play well against you, then scout the player.

This is covered in the guidelines and rules section above, but to answer your specific question; if you've played another team, and got beat convincingly, let's say, then it would be realistic for you to send your scout to have a closer look at that team, so I'd say, yes it's ok.

As to your fear that this could be abused to look for a 'known' player, then you're not quite getting the point of LLM - no LLM player would even think of doing this.

And it's your game, so you'd only be cheating yourself, kinda thing. Nobody's looking over your shoulder to ensure you abide by the rules. If in doubt, just ask yourself, "is this realistic?". That usually solves any dilemmas over whether I should do something or not.

That was really my question would it be realistic? I felt its a tough one to answer because IRL i don't see any reason why a manager wouldn't ask his scout to go and check out another club specifically especially say if they are a club which is known to produce high quality young players

Can you think of a club that is "known to produce high quality young players" in any of the lowest playable leagues in FM? No, I didn't think so. When you get to the top leagues the rules are open to a little more interperation eg. if you see a bloke play well for his country a number of times then scouting wouldn't be that important. For example everyone knows what <19yo english midfielder> can do. Affording him on the other hand...

But I digress, scouting clubs seems like a way to try to 'beat' the rules. As Elrawkum says if you do it once, no-one's going to know or care, but if you are systematically trying to get around LLM principles then it will become obvious and your input won't be welcome here.

Hope that helps.

Ok thanks. Just wanted to clear that up. Personally i havn't tried it yet because i wasn't sure if it would be cosidered legal or not. I'll avoid it totally until i reach higher levels. Thanks for the help

WOW! I never realized it was a no-no. I send my scout to go look for potential loanees, so I target the bigger clubs in my geographic area, so that I can find some potential temporary help.

Are you telling me that this doesn't happen in real life?

There's a difference between what happens in real life and what can be acceptably modelled and used realistically in FM.

Surely scouting a club (which happens to include its reserve and youth components) is not unacceptably modelled in FM? Essentially you are asking your scout to go watch that club's matches including the reserve and youth ties. What exactly is unrealistic about this?

I always have a scout set to "next opposition". This tells you little about the players though.
