Remember, its your game, play it as you see fit. If you can justify that scouting a club is realistic, then that's fine.

The problem the initial poster has is that he's not been LLM that long, so he still has ideas from GPG etc. He could then scout a club knowing that his scouts are going to find a particular player. I haven't got a clue who's any good, so if I have reason to scout a club, for example they're 20 points clear in the division below me, I will. I'd be stpid not to send a scout to have a look IMO.

I've never seen any of the old timers ever discourage scouting teams. I see nothing wrong with sending a scout to check out other sides. That is really what your scouts do anyway when you send them away. In the game, they just seem to randomly watch matches, but in real life, scouts certainly do get sent to watch certain sides because they've been doing well, and a manager wants to identify their key players.

wewak, just because you may not think something is right, it doesn't make it a "rule" in here. You certainly haven't been around long enough to add to the guidelines, and they're always discussed in here, it's not an absolute where someone throws down the gavel and says it is so.

So let's say I notice that my scouts are recommending a couple of players from a small team. Why shouldn't I send a scout to have a look and see if there are any players who weren't noticed before?

Bearing in mind that you're only going to be scouting teams your scout has run across anyway, I'm happy that it's within the realms of realism. I don't do it myself, but that's just because I'm lazy.

That's cool. I added my piece and some don't seem to agree. That's what a discussion forum is all about. I'm certainly not dictating guidelines or trying to make up rules, I just though I'd answer the best way I saw fit.

Yes, I haven't been around a long time, but I have been around long enough to form an opinion and state it to someone who asks. If the general consensus is different to my opinion, then great. I would like to hear the thoughts of some other regulars. Not to discount that ones that have said their piece, of xure

In summary; scouting clubs is cool  ...... for now

Having been around soooooo much longer than you , I agree with your sentiment that this kind of disagreement is what a forum like this is all about.

Your answer surprised me because in my feeble mind, scouting other specific teams, on the order of the Manager, I would think would be a standard and routine occuremce. Now, since I am a stupid American as someone else so eloquently put it, I do hesitate. I recognize that I don't benefit from the total immersion in the culture of Poofish Football, so when I get a message like that I wonder if I jumped to the wrong conclusion.

Oi, yank. I'm an aussie so I've got feck all idea what it feels like to be immersed in the football culture. Maybe the boss of Moor Green would send a scout to watch Lancaster City play I don't know. Why I was suspicious is that it seems like a good way to 'legitimately' find known good players.

Maybe in my mind I was getting confused with actually trawling clubs' playing lists which is of course a no-no. To be honest I'd never scout a club mainly for the reasons turnip states (I do scout next oppo, but don't then further scout 'danger men' he notices*)

I guess you have your ruling, OP. Carry on, nothing to see here.

*note to self: that seems like a damn fine idea \o/
