I haven't stopped playing FM2006 since I bought it on release day. I've bought lots of things in the interim, but FM is the one I've kept coming back to again and again.
The reasons I played CM01/02 so extensively could be summed up, for me, as follows:
1. CM4 was unequivocally crap. There was no reason to play CM4 over CM01/02 at all.
2. Rarely, it improved with time, in that increasing computing power didn't show the game up - there was no better genre game until FM showed up - and instead, the increased computing power made the game play better with the ability to run more leagues and quicker.
I do believe FM has more longevity - but only history will tell.

| Ok, I realise that I'm about to try and teach my grannie to suck eggs, but if you are in a position to recognise when something like this is about to happen, do you do anything to combat it?
When a team goes 2-0 IRL it is often the case that they can lose concentration. It is also true that the oppostion up their game as 2-0 is recoverable from.
So have you tried modifying your attacking stance? Or playing defensively with counterattack on for a bit? Or subbing on a couple of more defensive players with better "concentration" stats?
Football is about inconsistencies. Just because you can beat Real Madrid and Juventus one week, doesn't mean that you are certain to beat Bolton or West Ham the week after.

Ian, I couldn't agree more. Im in my 18th season and this has happened in every year.
Even in the divisions where I have gone up as champions, it still happens. The aquaplaning is so consistent I can look at my fixture list and predict when it is going to start happening and it does!!
Always happens at the same time of year.
Always seems to last the same duration of games
Always seems to skip the cups and continue back in the leagues!
Im currently experiencing it at the moment. As you say, there is sod all you can do about it so I just grit my teeeth and work through it, hoping to be lucky enough to pick up the odd draw if poss.
| That's the fella. I couldn't have described it better myself.

The point is it doesn't matter. Either way, whether you decide to try to prevent it, or you decide to cross your fingers and let the game go on, the end result will be the same. The opposition will score; it might be a flukey goal, it might be that ****ing lame throw-in penalty, it might be your keeper somehow straying way off his line, despite his instructions being to just ****ing stay there. It doesn't matter; it will happen, and there's not one thing you can do about it.
The results are pre-determined. And the AI will go out of its way to ensure that no matter what you do, the end result will be the pre-determined one.

Good thing this post doesn't half sound as bitter or fed-up or anything, too.

No offense, but this sounds exactly like the kind of stuff that people new to the game complain about on the GQ forum when they don't win every match 10-nill with Chelsea!!
I thought that all this "pre-determined" malarky was rubbished by the SI guys?

Without going much on the tipping stuff, I've found that the odd 'throw a studded shoe on your primma dona' has some effect other than said player wanting out of the team.
Sure you go from 'aquaplanning' to 'dressroom uproar', but the later is easier (and more important, loads more logical) to combat.

The thing is, witty, we're not GQ guys, we don't play with Chelsea, we expect to be beaten and scrape a result every now and again, we don't expect to win 10-0 every game.
We also don't expect to have control of our team and the game taken from us so the results go the same way every season, I literally can tell you what the result's going to be within a couple of minutes game time (win, lose or draw...not scores, obviously) but the Palace game was typical.
