Match stats show that I've had 70% possession, 6 shots on target, 0 off and the opposition yet to go near my net.
|
Just to point out...the Americans had about a 60-65% possession advantage to the Czech Republic. Lot of good that did. :kris102:

But how much of that possession was walking the ball up to half? |

I have experienced aqua-planeing quite extensivley in FM05, and I believe it is still present in 06 but not quite as prevelant.
I don't get massive slumps of form every season, but they do come. My tactic is just to go super defensive and cut my losses. I know at some point games will start to revert back to normal. The aqua-planing doesn't seem to just dissapear, rather it slowely fades out, and I usually notice this as 0-0 results seems to get less difficult, and then I can start slowely bringing my formation and instructions back to what they should be.
I know this isn't good enough, as you don't want a work-around, or a temporary tactic to get you through the bad patch, but I take comfort in the fact that aqua-planeing IS less apparent than it was in 05, so maybe it'll be less again in 07.

Interesting thread. Never played FM06 and didn't play FM05 enough to get into the game but from playing a hell of a lot of the previous versions there was always little problems and predictable outcomes/events that occurred. I suppose your enjoyment of the game depends on if you can ignore these things and just concentrate on the things that make you love the game.
Personally i've never really got into any of the game since cm01/02. The versions since then have just had something missing or something wrong with them that means I can never enjoy them as much. Could never put my finger on what the problem was with them.

Hey, CT  Your 6-monthly visit
I know what you mean. Up until this version there was always a lot of catch-up needed to get the same playability as 01/02, but this one has it...that "just one more game" feel.
The problem with aquaplaning and the forecast of results may be one that occurs during long saves, and, while they're a royal pain in the arse, they actually don't detract from the game enough for you to actually cast it aside, strange as that may seem.
May be worth waiting for FM07 now, though |

| Which reminds of the 01/02 version of aquaplaning..
You're losing 1-0 after 85 minutes and being played out of the park... but still, your team manages to equalise and give you hope for the last few minutes - you might still get a draw!
Every time that happened, and I mean every time, the opposition would get a second right after kick off. Why? Because this was a game you were going to lose no matter what. The Ai had planned a defeat for your lot, no matter what. Your tactics and players skill managed to go against "destiny" and get a goal they weren't supposed to get, but the AI corrects this immediately by allowing some two bit DL dribble through your whole defence and set up their striker for the easiest tap in of his life - as if your team doesn't even exist, as if the players have paused in the kick-off positions and are just watching destiny fullfill itself.
**** I hated that.

Arguably just happend to me in FM 06. Down 3 - 0 to Lyon in a CL match, give the lads a good screaming at the half. We draw level 3-3, and take the lead 4-3 in the 90th minute, only for Lyon to "hit right back." |

I hate to bring up my sordid past, but way back when, when I was a regular on the T&T forum, the 'aquaplaning' problem was debated heatedly.
The concensus seemed to be that although it wasn't a bug (in that it couldn't be replicated reliably), it was certainly a 'quirk' of the program. The T&T experts devised counter-strategies to combat the problem with a high degree of success. Obviously while LLMers can't use that resource to prevent their own aquaplaning, knowing that something can be done about it may, perhaps, give those experiencing the problem some motivation in trying to beat the glitch...
