Well consider me 'learned'.

We scraped a winner in the 83rd minute, having had my first-choice penalty-taker miss one.

Still, those 2 injuries we sustained more than make up for it...

Couple to that the games you lose or draw when you totally outplay and outshoot your opposition (linked to the "aquaplaning" part), and it's getting me down.

I never thought I'd see the day dawn (CM4 excluded).
I've changed my mind. What should have beena brilliant seaon has turned into a mediocre one when my league form disappeared and no matter what happened I couldn't get it back. I've been dominating games the same way as I was at the start of the season but the goals have just stopped going in!

Collapse

The collapse started just after I was forced to sell my goalie (minimum fee release clause) but conceding wasn't the problem (a 6-4 defeat aside  ). My strikers suddenly couldn't score goals!

But is "aquaplaning" unrealistic?

This season apart, Charlton are a classic example of a side who did ok for 2/3rd of the season and then no matter what they did re tactics, players etc, collapsed badly from Feb or so onwards.

This season they stayed the course a bit longer but thats possibly down to having an actual regular season long goal scorer.

Mind you, Curbishley obviously had enough as he through the towel in at the end of this season.

Just a thought.

I've got a thought...mention a player's name again and things you won't like will happen

Manchester City are another club to experience 'aquaplaning' in real life. I think they won 1 in the last 15.

Us normal folk call it 'poor form'. Moral in the team drops, the players stop believing in themselves, they become nervous, luck goes against them and confidence falls further. It takes some freak to get the team out of the mindset.

My beloved Nottingham Forest have been 'aquaplaning' for the last 15 years!

Another good example this season is Wigan. Played brilliant the first half, and couldn't buy a win in the second. But there is a big difference from the team mentioned and "aquaplaning". Wigan weren't dominating games, neither were Charlton. Especially Wigan overperfomed in the first half, and reality hit them in the second half of the season. It would be different of, say, Liverpool or Man Utd hardly managed to win despite dominating most games, and end up finishing mid-table.

Impressive collapse btw :/
