As a swansong for FM06 I decided I'd ask Frank where he'd like me to try, and he directed me to Northern Ireland, to a team with the noble name of Dergview.
I'd recently made a few discoveries regarding Db size from the smallest to the largest and stuck with "Huge", loaded up Northern Ireland 2nd Division and above, Scotland 3rd Division and above, and England Conference North and South and above.
I can give you the update from Season 1 to Season 3 in one sentence (nearly).
We did crap. Crap in the Cups, crap in the League until the end of season 2 when we gained promotion, and Stirling Albion finally put me out my misery by offering me the job in December 2008 when they were languishing in 10th spot in the Scottish 2nd Division.
Seriously, it's a lot of fun in the Northern Irish Leagues. You have no money, you have crap scouts who find crap players who won't sign for you.
The no money you have hastily falls to negative figures.
It takes real tinkering with the formations and tactics to get results, and it's really satisfying when they start to come together.
Our best striker was a Pakistani International (born in Derby and playing for Leicester before being released) and we eventually managed to sign three Scots and two Northern Irish and that was what we needed to take the 2nd Division at the end of Season 2.
Season three we were in 8th spot when The Binos put in a bid for me, offering a rolling contract of £500 a week so I was Stirling-bound.
From 10th we managed an 8th place finish and we're in a precarious financial position so we'll have to rely on frees (if they'll come and if the scouts find them), but I have doubts as to whether we're ready for an assault on the promotion places, but we'll see.
In summary: Northern Ireland's great to play in, but I'm pleased to be back in Jockland.
I guess I'd better start playing as a Jocklander or Pooflander. There is no possible way that I could get a job offer to bail me out in just a couple of seasons. If I don't apply, then I don't receive offers. And, even so, 95% of applications are turned down, even when I'm a better qualified candidate.
Best of luck with Stirling Albion, even though I'm more of an Albion Rovers supporter myself.

Well, so much for you ever getting a raise in pay or a secure deal
Season 4, we finished 4th in the 2nd Division but beat Morton in the playoff final to gain promotion.
Season 5, this one, we were sitting a comfortable 3rd in Division 1, 5 points behind Livingston on top, and Motherwell...7th in Division 1...sacked their manager and offered me a 3 year deal at £4600 p/w.
