I use predefined tactics, online and offline. I do tweak around in it, but it's just a few clicks from the original one.

4 basic tactic built around the exact same formation and I will tend to use at least 2 of the tactics in every game. I think I can name them without giving too much away. Normal, Get one Back, Relax, All out attack.

A bit disappointing that I used the exact same 4 tactics from The Conference
South all the way to the Champions League.

Oh nearly forgot I do have another preset tactic which involves a very attacking formation hoping for last minute comeback but invariably sees the boys drop another goal behind

I've got one fairly standard tactic I use, with small player instruction changes depending on who's playing.

There's also another tactic I've tried situationally, roughly titled 'That's upside down, right?'

When a version of FM comes out I make a tactic (most likely a miserable one). That gets tweaked in the first season most likely atleast once. Then I somehow tend to stick with it and only make an occasional change in the years after.

I've made a breakthrough with my current saved game. I use mostly the same team and player instructions, but I have four distinct formations saved and ready to use during a game. Sometimes I stick to one formation for an entire game, but I will changes formations drastically if the team needs a huge boost or is struggling in the game and desperately needs to address a problem.

I've found that this works wonders and has helped us climb back into matches or easily seal victories where otherwise the results might be different. Thankfully, I have unbelievable versatility on my squad and have used training to add even greater positional maneuvering. It has definitely opened my eyes and given me hope for future saved games.

I use 3 self-made tactics - one for home, one for away and one for 'nothing's working - panic'... I don't like to use default tactics because if/when they don't work I feel like it's the game's fault, whereas if I use my own, the resulting form, good or bad, is entirely down to my own genius/stupidity. I also tend to tweak them every new season to avoid stagnation and to adjust to any strengths/weaknesses in my squad. I never switch tactics during a game, just making little tweaks to respond to the situation as necessary.

Mike Bassett inspires my tactic of choice.

Addendum:

However, in the Zealot game, tactics more adventurous than Keegan's Newcastle bought in over 230 goals in a single Division One season, combined for and against including the playoffs.

2 predefined tactics for me with a bit of tweaking.

When I join a club, I'll pretty much identify the best eleven players and create a tactic that'll get all eleven on the park at once. Then I'll just stick with said tactic regardless of injuries/situation etc. and look to sign players that fit within that tactic. I don't think I changed my tactic after season one in the twelve seasons I spent at Barrow.

I've always had the intention of creating some situation-based tactics and really having a tinker, but if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Read: I'm too lazy.
