In our first season back up in the Conference National the board made the big decision of turning the club professional. This meant my wage budget skyrocketed from about £3k to £6k. I was able to change most people to pro contracts except for three of my best players who now wanted rediculous wages. However they were contracted for a while so something to deal with in the future.
The only changes to the playing staff were two exciting young defenders, one a Irish U21 international from Newcastle. This resulted in my defence fairing much better that last attempt at this level. However we did start with three loses on the trot but this soon swung around and combined with some good cup form we moved up to mid-table.
A new midfielder and an exciting striker bought in Jan. rescued our form after a slight lapse in the New Year and we eventually finished a very pleasing 12th. A young striker even got his debut England U21 cap.
Best performers were a MC who scored 16 goals and a striker who won his fourth straight fans POTY with 19 goals. Unfortuately the balance was £50k in the red at the end of the season.
