I (along with others) am writing a series of league guides to the lowest playable leagues in each country for another site.
The guides will be completely LLM friendly - intended to be a resource for those interested in playing in leagues with which they may not be familiar.
Basic info about the clubs will be given (stadium size, reputation, basically the stuff shown in the team info screen, except favoured personnel, of course), along with club badges and kit illustrations.
I'd like to get feedback from you guys on what else you think you'd like to see from such a guide?
Some thoughts to get the ball rolling:
Stadium pics, club history...
No, honestly, I do. (knows exactly what I might be letting myself in for ).
Let's try a new tack: Ian, we're fighting a battle for the hearts and minds of the proletariate. Do you want an FMfuture with difficulty levels? Assman's that are probably better than you are? Successive promotions with whatever team you manage? We have to grab young minds while they're still malleable, entice them with colourful guides, and with dreams of eternal glory rather than ephemeral, shallow fame. I will show them the way! Dulcius ex asperis*
Do you remember Projext "X"? That took a shitload of work, proved to be popular, but realistically didn't do a thing for anyone.
We decided then that it was better to have a random generator rather than to be able to see all the information for every club and to choose that way. It was far more "LLM" to have a team randomly thrown at you than it was to see how many coaches, how much money, how many players and all that crap helping you to choose a team.
LLaMas, in general, like to find out about the game by playing it. I, myself, had a very enjoyable .sav in Belgium, a notoriously difficult League to fathom, where I just kept playing until I was promoted, relegated or stayed exactly where I was.
That's LLM, not having all the information handed to you on a plate.
"Without the need for...tipping."
Getting any prior knowledge of the game is as good as tipping, knowing exactly what awaits you could make you steer clear of a certain League.
Frank says Indonesia. I don't know a thing about Indonesia, but I'll have a ball finding out.
The moment you try to attract new players by offering everything on a plate, bells and whistles, all info...you attract the wrong kind of player.
The only time that Frank has given me a team that I've ignored was when he plumped for Aris of Greece - which seemed like a perfect choice given my penchant for selecting teams with humourous names.
However, I discovered that they were in the UEFA cup and therefore decided against Frank's pearl of wisdom.
This is the one, and only, circumstance where I personally would be interested in any other information than the team name and what division they play in.

Sorry for the +1, but you posted this as I was tip-tapping away at the other post.
I agree wholeheartedly with this: how much fun is it discovering what the hell is going on with the Brazilian system? Or the Chilean Primera (once you get there)? Or the Dutch Eerste Division?
Wash. Rinse. Repeat.
I doubt I've played in half of the countries available to me in FM2006, but I can't wait to do the rest of them - and finding out how the hell it works is part of the charm
Don't think this is any kind of "rebuke" or attempt to put you off, btw...I was just telling you why you didn't want to hear my opinion.
A webpage like you're doing may be perfectly okay on the site you're doing it for, it may, indeed, attract new players into the ways of LLM, but as I said in our experience it's attracted the wrong kind, not fully fledged LLaMas.
I seriously doubt you'll get any kind of enthusiasm from established LLaMas, unfortunately.

Pah - never stopped me.

Won't be any of that. If there was I wouldn't have anything to do with it.

Meaning that some like to do a little homework first...

And it could also be the opposite, enabling players to choose a tougher challenge. I agree, there's no doubt some will use them to find the easiest teams, rather than the hardest, but as has been said many times - it's ultimately up to the player what kind of challenge they want. Real LLaMas wouldn't do this on principle and any others are, by definition, not LLM anyway. But once we get them into the net, so to speak, they can be educated (and yes, I realise that I may come to think as you do, that it's ultimately a waste of time).
Why I'm so insistent that they be LLM friendly is because apart from their promotional use, they would be a nice informational resource for LLaMas who already are managing a team. A curiosity. Some interesting background info/history on the club you're managing... Many will prefer relying on Frank and could use the guide to help them get into the team more. But, as many threads indicate (and you even have a warning not to ask) some people want to choose a team for themselves.
I understand and completely agree that existing LLaMas have no need for this, but, as I see it, they will get written regardless, and better a LLaMa do it than not. So, this being so, and having agreed to write a guide or two myself, I wanted to see if I could write them in a way which would be of interest to existing LLaMas.
If it turns out this is of absolutely no interest to existing LLaMas, then at least I'll have done some valuable market research.
But I had hoped using the Clan Ferguson motto might have softened that flinty heart
Nah, nah...you seem to think I'm entering into some kind of discussion...
I'm not.
My opinion, and it shan't be changed by Clan Mottos or anything else, is that it's against the LLM spirit and ethics, it attracts the wrong type of player, and for this Forum it would cause more bother than it's worth.
As I said, though, it may work for other sites so good luck to you
