That's pretty impressive Ian. Must have taken a lot of work.

The approach being taken by these guys is not to attempt a mega project, but to tackle a league at a time and build it up. That way if they don't catch on there won't be a huge waste of effort.

One of the reasons I wanted feedback is because, even without knowing what you've told me, I could see the potential for abuse.

Maybe they'd be better received if there was no information which could be used to gauge the strength of the teams. A gazetteer type thing, perhaps?

BoroPhil - I don't want to mention the site at the moment, because (a) sometimes these things don't pan out and then I'd look stupid, and (b) I don't want to fall foul of any 'site advertising' guidelines. If it does take off I'm sure you'll hear about it on the grapevine.

All I'll say is that Sir Bobby Moore (the forum dude, obviously; I don't talk to ghosts) asked me to get involved because none of the people at the site are LLM and they wanted to ensure that their LLM section was proper LLM and not LLM-lite. Other LLM forum members have also been approached to contribute/mod the site, so at the very least their intentions are good.

As far as I'm concerned (and if I have any influence), the guides will be a companion to Frank. They pick a team through Frank, start their game and then use the guide/gazetteer to see some info about their team.

The more I read here, the less inclined I am to want to put anything but the most basic game info into the guides. Just basic league details, general info and history of the clubs, info on their towns, etc., so that if the guide has any influence on what team they pick, it will be because the town has a nice Norman castle, not because their training facilities are top notch.

Wiz - Warning heeded Thankfully, it's not my project, I'm just a contributor. I just want to make sure my contribution takes into account what real LLaMas think.

It's one of those "road to hell is paved with good intentions" things.

Project X was, indeed, a hell of a lot of work and it was intended to make it more user friendly to play LLM. It was a slap in the face when we realised that it wasn't completely LLM and was being used in ways not intended by us.

I'm still happy we did it, I'm still "proud" of it, but it's a white elephant, LLM-wise.

The last thing is going to sound negative, and it's not meant to. I've lost count of the number of sites whose Admins have come in here to get the LLM line and to ask us to help, and they've always received help from those altruistic LLaMas, and none are still going.

It's as if the guys think that there's a place for LLM in every site, but realistically it's a difficult way to play, definitely not for everyone, and when there's, say, 200 active members it's highly unlikely there'll even be 10 who'd be true to the LLM ideal.

We went to Eidos with the intention of promoting LLM, two LLaMas became Mods, and it died a death.

Good luck, though, like I said.

Ian - Don't worry, I'm not taking anything you're saying as negative, just the words of a wise old bird who's been there and seen it all. I've been around long enough (not here, but, you know, in the world) to know that the 'road to hell...' adage is all too true.

| totally forgot I was involved in that project. Jesus I've been away too long.

I agree with the jambo it can be used for the wrong ends.

What I'd like to see a guide without any stastical information. A brief note on each club with historical info, geographical location. Any famous players who've played for them. Famous fans. History about the twon they play in etc. Info that's nice to know about but does not bring any benefit to a LLaMa.

What happened to Taipan in my absence.

Alas, Taips succumbed to the total and utter boredom brought about by the banality and ultimate unplayability of CM4 and it's bastard offspring and slipped off to pastures new.

He still makes the odd appearance, still enjoys the odd game of 01/02, but hasn't discovered the new-playability of FM06.

That's the way I'll be taking it, I think.

Ian - I'm doing Scotland, so if you know any good sites for info... (obviously I'll Google, but any pointers would be gratefully received)
