Default Tour de Suède

I decided to take charge of my home team Tyresö FF, playing in Division 2 East Svealand (Sweden).

Status: Semi-professional
Stadium: Bollmoravallen, 3000 (1000 seated)
Facilities: Basic

Season 2006
Tyresö FF – Division 2 ES

With no money and a board demanding a cut in the payroll, there were no additions to the squad during the off-season. On the pitch the season started out great, and continued that way until the end (almost the end). With five games left, the team was in second place with a chance for promotion. Then Ternana made a hefty offer for our top scorer. And with a big hole in our wallet, I decided to take the €475,000 offer. Turned out to be a big mistake, in the last five games we only won two games and finished third in the table. We could have used a couple more goals in those final five games.

Leading scorer was the young star striker that signed for Ternana after 15 goals in 17 games.

League: 3rd G22 W13 D4 L5 40-26 (+14) P43
Swedish Cup: not qualified

Thanks to the money from the Ternana deal, I was able to sign five players in the off-season. I also said good bye to seven players who was just eating salary. The season started with a 1-3 loss in the Swedish Cup (1st round). We got some early momentum that was killed by a bad patch of games. The team finished fifth after a five game unbeaten streak.

Our leading scorer was a 31 year old striker, who joined the team just before the season started. The old guy had 10 goals and a solid season all around.

League: 5th G22 W9 D3 L10 33-33 (E) P30
Swedish Cup: First round (lost 1-3)

During the off-season we added one defender on a free. Eleven players that did not cut it, was released on free transfer. Halfway into the season, I sold a defender for €45,000. An effort to at least move closer to black in the finances.

On the pitch we once again were kicked out of the Cup in the first round. Then we had a season that looked pretty much like last season. We finished fifth as we tied our top mark of 40 goals in total (compared to 33 last season). Once again it was our old €10,000 addition that leads the way in the scoring department.

Season 2009
Tyresö FF – Division 2 ES

Thanks to our now really crap economy, the player budget was cut (again) and I was forced to move some players (again). So instead we loaned a couple of players from teams located in higher divisions.

No cup this season, instead we had a great start to the season (after all, cups are for poofs). A string of bad games around the halfway mark moved us close to the bottom of the table. Thanks to our old top scorer, we managed to crawl back and finish tenth. Witch forced us to a relegation playoff. 1-1 and 2-1 saw us stay up in Division 2.

Leading scorer was once again our golden forward with 14 goals.

Season 2010
Tyresö FF – Division 2 ES

For the fifth straight season the board still wanted us to fight bravely against relegation. And with the 10th place last season, it’s hard to have any other hopes for the team. In the off-season four young players turned up from the youth ranks. One of them, a right back, was good enough to fight for a place in the starting eleven. Despite him being only 16. He ended up playing six games in a season were we surprised everyone with a sixth place in the table.

The highlights of the season were the two games against newly relegated Brommapojkarna. We won both games (3-0, 1-0). BP only lost 5 games during the season, and returned to Division 1 as winners of Division 2 East Svealand.

Season 2011
Tyresö FF – Division 2 ES

The only transfer during the off-season saw us selling a 30 year old right back for €22,000. So now our 17 year old DR was moved up for good from the u18 team. The 2011 season also saw the breakout of a striker from the u18 team. Who was thrown into the fire as our golden forward retired at the age of 35, having scored 42 goals for us in four seasons.

Once again we failed to play two solid seasons after each other. With 10 games left, we lost six straight games, before we won the last four games of the season. And again we were forced to play a relegation playoff to stay up.

We won the first game (1-0) and tied the second (1-1), allowing us to stay up.

League: 10th G22 W8 D2 L12 31-39 (-8) P26

Season 2012
Tyresö FF – Division 2 ES

For the tenth straight season the wage budget was cut. Witch cost us our top winger on a free transfer. Tough we signed a player who had played 13 games in Allsvenskan in the 2011 season. Just like previous seasons we followed a bad season with a not so bad season. After finishing 10th the last season, we finished 7th this season. Despite the fact that we were unable to score any goals, our top scorer was a AMC with 5 league goals.

League: 7th G22 W7 D6 L9 21-23 (-2) P27
Swedish Cup: not qualified (cups are indeed for poofs)

Season 2013
Tyresö FF – Division 2 ES

Just before the season started, I managed to sign a defensive midfielder who had been an u21 player for his country. The 27 year old DC/DM joined us after six seasons playing for Norrköping. Despite this nice addition, we played like crap during the season. A solid start with 3 wins in the first 5 games was nullified due to 13 games without a win. A simply horrendous streak, which sent the team down to Division 3..

The only bright spot during the season was the solid play from our young fullback, and from our 20 year old striker. The fullback had a nice season with 3 MoM and 21 games. While the striker lead the team with 8 goals and a 7.42 rating.

2004 update: Due to the relegation I was fired. I have since taken over Sandviken´s IF, a team playing in Division 2 North. A team that was qualified for the Swedish Cup. And sure enough I lost in the first round, on penalties this time. However we are unbeaten in the league... (2 games into it).

I hope someone will enjoy this little update thread about my adventures in Sweden.
