Season 4. 2008-2009. East Stirling. Third Division.

Transfers in: 3 players, one of them during the winter break, total of 4K
Transfers out: 4 players, all of them free transfers.

Board expectations: safe mid table.

League: It was a season of trial and error. I probably had the strongest team in the league, but some unfortunate change of tactics saw us drop from 1st to 4th around the middle of the season. I sorted the tactics out towards the end of the season, but we couldn’t manage more than 3rd place, 11 points behind winners Ayr.


Playoff: Thrashed Forfar in the semis, 6-1 aggregate, only to be defeated the worst way possible: penalty shootout against Albion Rovers in the final.

Another season in the Third Division awaits.

Signed a new contract, valid until 2010.

Pos: 3, Pl: 36, W: 16, D: 12, L: 8, For: 66, Ag: 44, Pts: 60

Cups:

Challenge Cup: 2nd round, lost the penalty shoot-out against Motherwell (1st Division)

Scottish Cup: 3rd round defeat to Premiership side Aberdeen, drew them away, again good money.

Finances: No problems here, The Shire started making regular 100K profits every season. But that's only because of good cup runs.

I forgot to mention that my first 3 keepers managed to injure themselves during the same period of time. As a result I played 2 games with my 4th choice goalie, a 16 year old with less football experience than the club janitor. Now, that really gets on my goat!
