For the record I wouldn't use this particular restriction
But as for hamstringing, I don't always see self-imposed restrictions as that. There are choices managers make based on morals and ethics or even just personal bias that do restrict them somewhat, but a good one will overcome them and thrive anyway. A bad manager won't and will sink.
Bluebirds example is theoretically what a xenophobic manager might do if anyone were crazy enough to give him the job.

| I can think of a dozen theoretical scenarios for saves in FM, but it doesn't mean that they would actually happen in real life and are therefore LLM. For instance the manager could be mad and only sign players who are called John. It theoretically could happen in real life...

Being mad is not the same as making a moral choice.
I agree that going too far with restrictions is as unrealistic as not having any. Ian's self-imposed restriction of SWYCT was an example of the kind of thing I mean. Now, of course, it's one of the guidelines we all play to.
To use my game as an example; there are certain players who I won't buy if they have a certain combination of stats and personality I find objectionable. There are no guidelines on this and to an extent it could be seen as hamstringing myself (at least one I turned down is now a regular for Poofland in my save). But I think it's realistic and therefore still well within the boundaries of LLM.
Therefore, I stand by my assertion that self-imposed restrictions are a part of LLM, as long as they are realistic. If Bluebird wants to think what he's doing is realistic and more importantly he's not using it [i]to gain advantage[/], then as far as I'm concerned he can be as xenophobic as he wants (in the game).

I can recall a time where this forum had a somewhat similar "challenge" where someone said something along the lines of "Remember the Lisbon Lions? Wouldn't it be cool if we could recreate Celtic with only players from the home country?" And it seemed to me quite a few people got interested in it.
Now, don't really sign foreigners as it is, until I've decided I'm at a big enough club to warrant any. It's certainly not an unrealistic if a manager says to himself "I don't want any foreigners in my side." I have no doubts that there are managers, or potentials, who have that trait.

I doubt this is a problem. Ian will only sign Scots, even if he plays in Indonesia. |

I remember when Bradford had a former Millwall manager in charge - it seemed that he only ever signed players who had Millwall connections and who were worse than useless.
He left after someone threw a pie at him, and he fell over an advertising hoarding on his way to the dugout
