When you get offered a job they offer you a salary which you can negotiate. What is the point of this?
You are looking at this the wrong way. The game is coded to treat all managers, AI or Human, in exactly the same manner. So if an AI manager can negotiate then a Human manger can negotiate. Just like in real life and the game does strive for realism.

Garbage!! How on earth do you know this has been coded into the game!???????????
One piece of evidence to support this is by looking at manager's job security. I know there are numerous other variables involved but there is a link between security and when a manager's contract expires relative to how they are performing with respect to expectations.

That's something I've noticed in my game but I can accept it might just be a coincidence.

I can't actually confirm this, but I wonder if maybe it affects how likely another club is to offer you a job?

If it's being realistic, then unless the approaching club is filthy rich, they are not likely to want to sign a manager who has a long contract for a high wage, because they would have to pay more compensation to the current club. It would make sense if your wage and contract length affected this as well as your own job security.

And i'm sure if you were managing a club in real life you would want as low of a wage as possible to give yourself a slightly higher budget for players

Realism? What's that?!

surely that can work the other way...
we are not paying as much so we can give him more time

I think there should be a running total of how much money you've made in your career, in both pounds and Aston Martins.
