I was interested in playing the new Republic of Ireland First Division team Wexford.
After the first few days I can see that they have no funds and are only allowed to have amateur players to youth contracts.
Has anyone managed Wexford long enough to know if this is a permanent policy along the lines of the cantera at Bilbao, or will Wexford be able to pay wages in the future if they manage to make a profit?
I beleive that in real life, the Wexford board are only interested in having players raised in Wexford County similar to the cantera.
I loaded up Galway instead and am having a great save. Alan Murphy is putting on the best performance I have seen in the FM series.
I can't say the FM creators agree with your assessment of the fans, however. I am lucky to get an attendance of 800 even though I am top of the table 3/4 through my first season.
As you can read by my location, I'm currently in Wexford for a stint. I was finding players who would play on the team by using my scouting assignments to search for players whose salary was a maximum of $0. I'd get a short list of players willing to sign an amateur contract.
The first season, I finished ninth. My board offered me a new contract midway through my contract unexpectedly. I declined the extension. Then they took out a $20 Million dollar loan to build a new stadium with the team still running nearly 400K in the red. I didn't ask for the stadium either. After getting hit with 230K/month loan payments, my board is distraught with my financial control. Dolts, they did it not me...
The nice thing about amateur contracts is that all money made in attendances is profit and the away matches are very easy on the budget too. I've been averaging about 350 attendance per home match my second season.
The bad thing is that I must remain vigilant with scouting for new players to replace any decent player on my team. I've had to change captains/vice captains 3 times this season (in Aug currently) because my players have been whisked away by any team willing to pay them a decent wage. In season 1, I brought in 18 players and managed to keep about 6-8 this far into season 2.
Even though the board sunk me in deep debt for many years to come, they keep injecting funds regularly to offset the debt load.
Hope this information helps for anyone else wanting to wallow in Wexford.
When I briefly played Wexford, pre-patch, I hosted several friendlies that had 200 or so in attendance, but the finance page showed all zeros under income.
I was beginning to think that the amateur status meant they didn't charge for tickets.
I wasn't able to get a scout, so I had to go the search -> unattached route. If you retain all players from Ireland you can get plenty this way, but I did have some players sign with another team within a week of agreeing to an amateur contract for my Wexford. And Wexford was not compensated.
I realize now I should have signed the youngest players to youth contracts and not amateur contracts which was the default.
I did receive money from ticket sales. In season 2 I had a whopping 55 season ticket sales.
Home contests do register as income for me during the regular season. I've been able to move my debt from -800K to -400K, then got slammed with the 20 million stadium and nearly -1M in debt. I've climbed it up to -700K currently, but that's mostly the result of the cash injections to offset the loan payments.
However, my ass man didn't/couldn't schedule any friendly's for me (I hate doing that).
I had to search for scouts too.
I will have to try signing my new crop of youths to youth contracts instead of the default amateur ones. Losing them is what helped to kill any upward momentum I was starting to generate.
from what i've heard & seen from managing dundalk & shels in the loi wexford usually get an 11.5m loan for no reason. mick wallace the owner/chairman/ceo/manager is one of the richest men in ireland & is totally financing them from his own pocket sso they don't need the money! It's been raised on the Ireland thread in the bugs forum already tho so hopefully it'll be sorted in the patch.
