I wasn't trying to say that you can't win games like these. I said it SEEMS like you can't do anything.

The reason the people who do well against bigger teams struggle against smaller teams is tactics. It makes sense that you can't just play the same way against teams better than you and teams worse than you and get the same results against both. If, as in your case, you're playing a tactic that is successful against teams better than you it's probably because it's not too attacking and perhaps looks to hit the teams on the break that attempt to play attacking against you (this is just an example).

When you come to play a lesser team they will be playing differently against you, much more defensive and looking to snatch a goal somewhere down the line. So that tactics you used against the last team is not going to work anywhere near aswell against this team.

You need to have a couple of versions of the same tactic set up so that when you need to go more attacking/defensive you can do. This goes for during a game too. If, as you say, your players were all on 6's and your team wasn't playing well then it should have been fairly obvious by half time that you needed to change something.
You are absolutely right and I do have different versions of my tactic. And usually the results are logical to my tactics, hence the unbeaten 12 games run. I didn't had this run by just playing the same tactic and hitting continue.

But then there are matches like the one I was talking about when all the logic of the match engine and the game are thrown to a garbage bin and it feels like you are sitting in the crowd watching the awful match and not in the manager booth making things happen. I have the feeling this happened because of my initial team-talk: "you can win this game". I guess "for the fans" is the most neutral one and I should've use it.

I had the feeling that this match was going to be the unbeaten-run-breaker, so I played with my defensive tactic. They were also very defensive with 4-5-1 and no attacking runs. I have quality players that can play possession football, so I tried to control the game with low tempo. I changed to more attacking tactic after the half-time. I have the feeling (from my experience) that if I'd play with attacking tactic from the start the result would be pretty much the same, because this was one of "those days".

Thanks for the constructive post. </BLOCKQUOTE>

Fair enough I didn't at first realise that one of the main points of post was the effect of team talks. I agree with you that team talks are a bit rubbish and can have a strange effect on matches though.

If only Billy Davies at Derby knew all he had to do when playing away was tell his team "I expect to lose heavily and dont really care whether its by 5 or 20 goals. Just go out and have a laugh at how bad you are"

Derby fans would suddenly be able to watch their team play like Arsenal on a good day while the opposition stand around and watch in amazement.

Had a similar deal, but it's getting long term. First year Bury finished 19th, predicted 20th in L2. I bought players and year two I'm flying high. Through Dec 15, I'm 1st place, something like 55 pts out of 28 matches. Also 11 pts clear of 4th, meaning auto promotion. Just won last 3 matches by a 10-1 margin. Then I lost to some mid table teams and the team seemed like a different team. They seemed alien abducted or something. Bringing reserves, tweaking tactics, nothing really seemed to change the fact that my players suddenly sucked. Even my top striker.... he has 34 goals in 31 apps, but has only scored in 1/2 the matches on this bad 10 match run.

It looks like we are turning it around just in time. I'm in 3rd only 2 pts clear. Not sure what happened, but it seemed like a light switch got turned to the off position and we stumbled around in the dark for a bit and found it and now it's back on.

ur not alone.. its what i call build in stop for your team, you can go dominant, then next game your best cm cant pass ball without loosing it each single time..

then with that retarded morale system.. which is even worst if you play in low leagues. such as conference.. i can go 19 straight wins streak. like i did.. and have 2-3 ppl on poor morale.. like cmon ?
or even on that wining streak i can see how my 11th game was totally not same i had before..

FM/CM has always had issues with very early 2 goal leads, both for and against the user.

And then even in coming out of the power outage, my last two wins I went down 1-0 pretty early. In one, the team scored at 81, 90, and 90 to win 3-1. Nice, but I'm in a sour mood the whole match. Then this last one, scored at 75 and 86. Said "for the fans!", you know, in order to be highly inspirational. Seems it takes my players ability (maybe) then heavily checks morale, then gives this huge power-up if I've stated "for the fans!"

I think any new feature to the base game gets overblown. Not that team talks is new, but it still feels overblown.

Im on a good run with my leicester team at the mo in the prem managed to beat aresenal and chelsea (Still only 12th though lol) and just beat liverpool in LC and im just wondering when that awfull performance is going to come and ruin it for me sometimes i feel im just destined to lose the game im playing like when you can score to equalise late on only for the other team to score straight after then you score again and they do it again and win it almost like the game wants you too lose... still fun though :p

Currently, I have won 7 games in a row with Man Utd, and I only play with one tactic. If Im playing against a worse team, I have all attacking midfielders. if Im playing against a better team, I have one midfielder who i defensive - all I do is decrease forward runs and thats the only difference.

I realise that its with Man Utd, and tis possible that Im winning because I have such a good team and tactics may not affect it. However, I was making the point that you can play with just one tactic.

You should try changing individual instructions rather than team instructions, just say your teams creating nothing at all and the other team are dominating, changing the individual instructions for key players can sometimes have an effect. E.G: your striker is set to run with ball often and forward runs often, with high creative freedom, short passing and rarely crossing, just change all of these settings to the opposite and do so for a few players, I've had (some limited) success doing this in games where my team is playing like donkeys.
