I always play will English leagues and a mixture of maybe 4 or 5 other leagues all on playable as I like a challenege of moving around.

I never choose leagues as view only, but I've seen some people put down that they choose about 5 or 6 leagues on playable and the rest on view only.

Would doing this make any effect on the game speed?

As things would be more realistic if you could see how things happened in other countries?

Yes it effects game speed as every new result in these view only leagues has to be calculated as well as all of the player events of all new players added to the database.

A big difference between view only and playable is that view only league clubs are more likely to have grey players depending on the reputation of the real ones.

I don't know what the long term effect is on regens i.e. do formerly grey player populated teams in view only leagues develop into fully populated with real players.

The biggest thing I have found to affect speed is changing the detail level to none in leagues I and competitions my team aren't in. This way you get the realism of more regens without the additional processing crunch of doing fully simulated matches.

How do you change the detail level for Comps that you aren't involved in kind sir???

Go to Options/Detail Level and there you can set the level of detail for every competition that you've loaded.

Making the extra leagues view-only massively speeds up the game (as opposed to having them playable). It's one of the best features in FM imho.

I usually run around 70 divisions in my saves - of these only 10 or 12 will be playable, the rest will be view-only, and the speed is very good and I get all the depth I could want.

^^What's the effect on regens? Are the majority of the clubs in view only leagues filled with more real regens or greys? Particularly over the long term games.

I tried adding the top division from the major leagues in Europe to my usual all English leagues set up and had to quit the game because the processing times were boring me to death. Then again 'fast' or 'slow' in FM is purely subjective.
