Default I'm out. It's been fun though.

I have gotten a lot of enjoyment over the past few years from this series. It's been by far the best game on the market and has taken away hours of my life that I don't want to have back. However, I'm joining those who are going back to earlier versions of the game. Why? Because I want to have fun again.

I've really, really tried to get into this game. I've played it extensively out of the box, with both betas and the full patch, and I can't even get past the three season mark, let alone a nice long career.

I've had a gutful of constantly being the better team without reward. I've had a gutful of having no clue where my tactics are going wrong, purely because I dominate without reward. I watch the game on full, and all I see is my team on top in all key areas, only to concede a goal out of nothing from nowhere. Every single time.

I've had enough of having a successful season and finding absolutely no way of following it up. I tweak tactics slightly, I try to integrate new players slowly, I completely change tactics. And I'm always undone by the same things at the same times, without any real clue of how to combat it.

I'm sick of finishing every game and coming to the message "made to rue missed chances". I'm sick of half finished features like match confidence, media interaction and team talks.

I've lost hair, keyboards and computer monitors over defenders who still make the same crappy, mindless, brainless mistakes every game. They lack fundamentals taught to players from a young age, and can't even run in the right direction or mark the right players.

I'm sick of individual player instructions having no bearing. I'm sick of players I set to 'tight marking' running around by themselves, while fullbacks set to play defensive go everywhere on the pitch except near where they should.

I'm sick of knowing if I'm 1-0 up in a crucial game, stoppage time will go for twice as long as it's intended. I'm sick of the same stoppage time only going the required amount when I need the goal. I'm sick of the multitude of factors that seem heavily, heavily weighted in avour of the computer, even though I'm acutely aware "it's your tactics lol"

Anyway this is long enough. I'm back to 07 and eagerly awaiting 09. There are those who love 08 and good luck to them, but I just can't play it anymore. It is awful.

i really dont see what the fuss is about. Football manager is for people who want fun but it needs skill and if you lack that you struggle to use it. I have so much passion for football i'm nearly playing this game or football outside everyday nevermind fifa and pro evolution soccer.

There is nothing wrong in the game really. I win most games through a tactic i related to Man Utd. I buy the right players and in a match there are normally about 12 shots +, i don't even see how people are gettin 50 shots on goal.

There is your problem.

SI won't care about your thoughts, simple because you have come straight out and said "ignore my ramblings on the terrible match engine, unfinished features and broken gameplay, I'm still going to buy 09 anyway.

Until you make a promise NOT to buy 09, you are simply contributing to the problem.

I'd stay with 07 until it's comprehensively demonstrated than 09 is not going to be another slice of **** on toast.

And this is my big problem - I don't understand where I am going wrong. I take time over my tactics and the end result is dominating games, creating excellent chances and limiting the opposition. Am I supposed to try and get less clear cut chances? That would make no sense.

I understand why you miss chances, because there are too many overall and scores need to be kept in check, but why am I then not rewarded for shutting the computer out?

you downloaded a tactic. Wow 3 pats on the back for how much skill you have. The person who created the tactic clearly has no idea what kind of players you have in your team which just goes to show how flawed the game is.

I don't understand how anyone who claims to have a passion for football can not see what is wrong with the game. For the record i am not saying the game is too hard in fact i think it is far too easy. It is frustrating however to be forced to play wide with crosses leading to the majority of your goals even if you have a 5'5 striker. It is frustrating that top quality strikers will miss about 10-15 open goals a season and many more 1v1 chances. It is frustrating that your team only attempts to make about 15 tackles a match. It is frustrating that 90% of free kicks are kicked straight into the wall. Anyone who knows anything about football would be annoyed by these things in the match engine.

People may go on about the difficulty of making the game but that does not explain the fact that even the first version which had a 2d match pitch had less of these obvious flaws particularly after the first patch came out.
