Some more good ideas coming through.
The last thing i'd want to do is rush into something and not get it right.

From what I can work out of the Community project, he is working on behind the scenes scripts that would share download links between different download sites.
While this would be a great improvement, he isn't creating a website that would have information about the downloads - just a central place for them all to be uploaded and linked to from.

Working with the existing fmwiki could work... I don't know Caleyjag but perhaps someone that does can point him towards this thread and see what he thinks.


Robbie, I think we are thinking along similar lines with what we want.
I think some kind of restriction on the creation of pages (or review before going live) and uploading/linking to files would be a good idea and i believe this can be done with a wiki which would retain the ability for everyone to edit info about/review the files after they have been initially posted.

I don't really understand what's different to what this FM Add-On Wiki will do to what established sites already do? In basic terms it is the same thing - a site providing downloads.

The CDP is different in that it has a central database of downloads and that database is shared amongst sites that want to use it. THe idea is that you upload a file to it and it gets shown across the scene on various other sites automatically.

http://www.myfmcv.co.uk/index.php?page=downloads - is my page with downloads on it. Various other sites also have the exact same info on theirs.

http://www.myfmcv.co.uk/cdp/about.php is the page telling what the project is about.

Hi,

I have spare bandwidth and space lying around (server is not to loaded) and would welcome a participation on a project like this.

Server specs are the usual LAMP type of box with cpanel hosting.. I run a small local company that sells hosting solutions in my home country.

So, if anyone is interested in starting this kind of project, just let me know what kind of requirements are needed. (Have close to 50 or more Gb bw available...)
